Traits Of A True Mother

A Mother’s Love
A little boy came up to his mother in the kitchen one evening while she was fixing supper, and handed her a piece of paper that he had been writing on. After his mom dried her hands on an apron, she read it, and this is what it said:
1. For cutting grass: $5.00
2. For cleaning my room this week: $1.00
3. For going to the store: $.50
4. For baby-sitting my baby sister while you went to the store: $.25
5. For taking out the garbage: $1.00
6. For cleaning up and raking the yard: $2.00
For cleaning up and raking the yard: $2.00
Totaled Owed: $14.75
The boy’s mother looked at him standing there, and the boy could see the memories flashing through her mind. She pick up the pen, turned the paper over and wrote this:
1. For nine months I carried you, while you were growing inside me: No Charge.
2. For all the nights that I’ve sat up with you, doctoring and prayed for you: No Charge.
3. For all the trying times, and all the tears that you caused through the years: No Charge
4. For all the nights that were filled with dread, and for the worries I knew were a head: No Charge.
5. For all the toys, food , clothes, and wiping your nose: No Charge.
6. For all the diaper changes when you where a baby: No Charge.
She said, “Son when you add it up, the cost of my love is, No Charge.”
When the boy finished reading what his mother had written, there were big tears in his eyes, and he looked straight at his mother and said, “Mom, I sure do love you.”
And took his pen and in great big letters he wrote: “Paid In Full.”
Intro:
Today is Mother’s Day, I want to say how much I appreciate all you moms, that are here today or watching our live-streaming of the services.
The first Mother’s Day was celebrated in West Virginia in 1912.
Mothers were to be recognized as an important part of our culture and lives.
The Christian mother, loves their children during the worst and best times.
The Christian mother, loves their children during the worst and best times.
This morning we are here to Honor our Mothers, we Honor them for;
There unwavering Love,
There Teachings and Instructions,
The Sacrifices they have made or makes for us.
I have been reading, studying and praying to the Lord to give me a special Mother’s Day sermon. I searched for something to encourage an inspire both our older, and younger mothers, and our married and single mothers this morning.

The Bible gives many traits of a true mothers, and their Love, teaching and Instruction, and Sacrifices they have made for their children.
For example:
Paul tells his young apprentice he was instilled with his sincere faith from the teachings of his grandmother, and mother.
2 Timothy 1:5 KJV 1900
5 When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.
The Fifth Commandment requires that we honor our fathers as well as our mothers.
Exodus 20:12 KJV 1900
12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.
Not all Classic Bible Stories are about fine and upstanding mothers, we often learn the primary lesson and fail to see the rest of the story.
If you have your Bibles please turn to:
1 Kings 3:16–28 KJV 1900
16 Then came there two women, that were harlots, unto the king, and stood before him. 17 And the one woman said, O my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house; and I was delivered of a child with her in the house. 18 And it came to pass the third day after that I was delivered, that this woman was delivered also: and we were together; there was no stranger with us in the house, save we two in the house. 19 And this woman’s child died in the night; because she overlaid it. 20 And she arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while thine handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom. 21 And when I rose in the morning to give my child suck, behold, it was dead: but when I had considered it in the morning, behold, it was not my son, which I did bear. 22 And the other woman said, Nay; but the living is my son, and the dead is thy son. And this said, No; but the dead is thy son, and the living is my son. Thus they spake before the king. 23 Then said the king, The one saith, This is my son that liveth, and thy son is the dead: and the other saith, Nay; but thy son is the dead, and my son is the living. 24 And the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king. 25 And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other. 26 Then spake the woman whose the living child was unto the king, for her bowels yearned upon her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it. 27 Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no wise slay it: she is the mother thereof. 28 And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do judgment.

Many preacher use these verses to speak about the Wisdom of King Solomon.
He was a wise King,
God granted his wish for wisdom to rule his people.
I want to bring out the traits, and sacrifice of a true mother.

I. A True Mother Knows Her Children:

You can’t fool a mother about her child or children!
When a mother gives birth to a child, the doctor usually place the baby on the mothers chest.
That mother immediately starts to memorizes the babies features.
The Face,
The Eyes,
The Ears,
Counts Fingers and Toes,
My point is after a mother gives birth she knows her child.
1 Kings 3:17–21 KJV 1900
: 17-
iv. This mother could not be fooled.
v. She knew that the baby that died was not her child.

II. A True Mother Fights For Her Children:

A mother will fight for her child or children!
It’s what my wife and daughters call “The Mama Bear Syndrome.”
My wife had a rule when our children were young.
She would fight any battle or problem they had School, Sports, or Dance. She would trust our children’s word, but she’s going to find out the truth.
If she went up there and made a rear-end of her self and found out she was lied too.
Well just use your imagination on what would happen next.
I never want to be in the cross hairs of a protective mother.
The mothers of our text were both single mothers,
Their profession is not the first choice a mother would pick, it’s one of survival.
1 Kings 3:16 KJV 1900
16 Then came there two women, that were harlots, unto the king, and stood before him.
1 Kings
I believe God has a special place in His heart for single moms.
I believe God has a special place in His heart for single moms.
ii. In our texts these mothers were fighting over the living baby.
iii. King Solomon had a Important decision and ruling to make.
Which one of the women was “The Real Mother.”
This is where the wisdom God granted Solomon comes to play.
1 King 3: 23-
1 Kings 3:23–25 KJV 1900
23 Then said the king, The one saith, This is my son that liveth, and thy son is the dead: and the other saith, Nay; but thy son is the dead, and my son is the living. 24 And the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king. 25 And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other.
iv. I believe that Solomon was playing to the gift God gave all Mothers.
v. Every mother who has given birth or adopted a child has it.
vi. Mothers Intuition:
The gut feeling deep inside them, that tell each mother that their child or children are in danger.
This sense that a mother possesses also lets them know when,
When there child is sick,
When that child is hurt or hurting
When that child needs extra loving,
When that child is lying.
Science stats that there is a Mother’s Intuition Sense:
They say, “During pregnancy more then nutrient pass through the placenta between mother and child tissue cells, and genetic material also makes the transfer. They call it DNA.”
They further stat, “Because women carry the DNA of their children inside their own body, Specifically the brain. This explains Mother’s Intuition.”
vii. I believed that Solomon would find the true mother, because of the sense Mother’s Intuition.

III. A True Mother Sacrifices For Her Children:

A true mother sacrifices a lot for her child and children.
Mothers will give their food to their children, and not eat so, they wouldn’t go hungry,
Mothers will give up there personal time for their children,
Mothers will lose sleep to feed a child or comfort them when they are sick,
Mothers will bring joy to a child, even if they will have to do with out,
Mothers shares her bed, I know because every time one of my children or grandchildren spend the night, i’m on the couch,
Mothers sacrifice there social life,
Mothers will sacrifice there desires.
We see the mother of this text sacrifice her relationship with her child in order to save her child.
1 Kings 3:25–26 KJV 1900
25 And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other. 26 Then spake the woman whose the living child was unto the king, for her bowels yearned upon her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it.
c. We see a true mother will do anything to save her child or children.
-25
Notice the fake mother in the last part of verse 26.
“But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it.”
ii. Solomon knew the true mother would speak up and not want her child killed.
1 Kings 3:27 KJV 1900
27 Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no wise slay it: she is the mother thereof.

IV. A True Mother Will Instruct and Teach Her Children:

About God and His Son Jesus Christ,

IV. A True Mother Will Instruct and Teach Her Children:

The need for going to church,
Right from wrong,
Manners,
Respect for authority, elders, and other,

Comfort people who need it,

The Bible tell’s not only the mothers but, fathers to train their children.

Proverbs

14 In righteousness shalt thou be established: Thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: And from terror; for it shall not come near thee.
Isai

V. A True Mother Will Always Love Her Children:

No matter what a child does in life there mother will always love them.
As I come to the end of my sermon, I want to leave you with one more story.
There was a man, a career criminal, we will call him Joe. Joe grow up having only a single mom, Joe mother tried her best to tend to his needs, She work two jobs, took him to church, prayed for him.
Though all the love Joe’s mother gave him, Joe rebelled when he was 16. He started running around with the wrong crowd, at times beat his mother. One night at the age of 25 Joe and his friends robbed a convenience store. The clerk fought back and Joe Killed him.
It wasn’t long till Joe was apprehended by the police. Joe was very defiant and thought he was going to get off, but Joe was wrong. The judge sentenced him to death. All of Joe’s appeals were rejected.
Finally the day of Joe’s execution came. Joe’s mother came to visit him for the last time. She wanted to tell him she still loved him, tell him about Jesus , and pray for him. Instead of Joe thanking his mother, he cussed her out, told her it’s all her fault for what is about to happen to him, he didn’t need her God, or prayers, just to go and leave him to die in peace.
Joe’s mother went to see the warden and beg him not to execute her son, she told him it was her fault for not raising him right. The warden told Joe’s mother that her son did the crime and payment had to paid.
It was finally time for Joe’s execution and the warden and the guards came for Joe. They led Joe outside and open the front gate, and told him he was free to go. Joe being total confused said, “I was sentenced to death, why are you letting me go?” The warden said, "The payment for your crime has been paid.” Joe said, “By Who?” The warden said your mother, she took your place!”
Thousands of years ago God sacrificed His only Son to die to save us all from our sins and give us eternal life.
