The Satisfaction of Christian Living
The Satisfaction of Christian Living
Text: Colossians 2:8-15
Introduction:
People all across the world seem to be ever in the pursuit of happiness. Our own country states in its declaration of Independence that all men are endowed with the rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. With everyone in the pursuit of happiness, is there anyone who has found it?
Billionaire H. Ross Perot is quoted as saying "Guys, just remember, if you get real lucky, if you make a lot of money, if you go out and buy a lot of stuff- it's going to break. You got your biggest fanciest mansion in the world. It has air conditioning. It's got a pool. Just think of all the pumps that are going to go out. Or go to a yacht basin any place in the world. Nobody is smiling, and I'll tell you why. Something broke that morning. The generator's out; the microwave oven doesn't work....Things just don't mean happiness.
As with any search, it all depends on where we look if we find what we're looking for. Some people look for all the right things in all the wrong places. God speaks to us through his word today and tells us where to find completeness; where to find fullness. If you are looking for satisfaction, it can be found in Christ. Let's take a look at how aligning ourselves with Christ can provide a happy and full life.
First, lets look at the:
I. Stature of Christ
A. Higher than men's thoughts
B. God in the flesh
C. King of Kings
II. Satisfaction of Christ
A. For forgiveness
B. For debt of sin
C. For accusations
III. Separation to Christ
A. Through radical surgery
B. In baptism's death.
C. In the resurrection life
IV. Supremacy of Christ
A. victorious over our enemies (against the world)
B. In the paradox of the cross (over Satan)
Conclusion:
When we search for happiness in the wrong places, we may end up with more than we bargained for. We may be filled with a great desire for happiness, but we can't let our enthusiasm blind us to danger.
*There was once a Pigeon, oppressed by excessive thirst, who saw a goblet of water painted on a signboard. Not supposing it to be only a picture, she flew towards it with a loud whir and unwittingly dashed against the signboard, jarring herself terribly. Having broken her wings by the blow, she fell to the ground.
The world often paints pretty pictures of happiness for us. We can not allow those pictures to fool us. Many of us have received a lot of wounds in our search for happiness. Christ can bring us that happiness we are searching for. He can provide healing for those old wounds. Come to Christ. In Him only is true satisfaction.
