Introduction
Introduction
It is said that an angel strolled out of heaven one beautiful day and found his way to this old world. He roamed through field and city beholding the varied scenes of nature and art, and just at sunset he plumed his golden wings and said, “I must return to the world of light; shall I not take with me some mementos of my visit here?
“How beautiful and fragrant those flowers are! I will pluck of them a choice bouquet.” Passing a country home where he saw through the open door a rosy, little crib into its mother’s face, he said, “The smile of that baby is prettier than these roses; I will take that too.” Just then he looked beyond the cradle and saw a devout mother pouring out her love like the gush of a perpetual fountain, as she stopped to kiss “Good-night” her precious baby. “Oh,” said he, “that mother’s love is the prettiest thing I have seen in all the world; I will take that too!”
With these three treasures he winged his way toward the pearly gates, but just before entering he decided to examine his mementos, and to his astonishment the flowers had withered until they were no longer things of beauty, the baby’s smile had changed into a frown, but the mother’s love retained all its pristine beauty and fragrance. He threw aside the withered roses and the departed smile, and, passing through the gates, was welcomed by the hosts of heaven that gathered about him to see what he had.
“Here,” said he, “is the only thing I found on earth that would retain its fragrance and beauty all the way to heaven. The sweetest thing in all the world is a mother’s love.”
Today we celebrate an often unsung, overworked hero… mom. She not only carries her own weight through this sin cursed world, but she also bears the burdens of provision, protection, comfort and support to those lucky enough to be in her family under her care. To all the moms out there, we solute you.
Our passage today tells us of a special mother. One who, by the providence of God, had become a single widow mother living in the middle of a three year drought that was direct result of the judgement of God. She was desperate, alone and soon to die along with her son. In spite of all this God had something for her. God was going to pour His grace and provision upon her. She was going to learn to trust the Almighty in a special way so that she could tap into Flour Power… a provision where the oil and bread flour would last all through the whole drought.
This message is for moms who are carrying a heavy load, facing impossible circumstances, and trying to love and provide for your loved ones all through the valley in which you travel. This is not only for moms, but for anyone who needs to learn to transfer their trust from their own power and provision to the One who can grant you access to this same flour power we have read about today.
Know That God Has a Plan
Know That God Has a Plan
For the one whose brook has dried up.
And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.
And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying,
“Zarephath” means “refining”
God was moving the prophet to a place where the provisions would be even more scarce.
“Because of our proneness to look at the bucket and forget the fountain,” wrote Watchman Nee, “God has frequently to change His means of supply to keep our eyes fixed on the source.”
For this needy widow
But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land; But unto none of them was Elias sent, save unto Sarepta, a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow.
God’s plan often removes you from your comfort zone
Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.
God’s plan requires surrender
And she said, As the Lord thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.

FEAR NOT!
And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.
Trust me
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart;
And lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him,
And he shall direct thy paths.
For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth.
Delight thyself also in the Lord;
And he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
Commit thy way unto the Lord;
Trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
Put me First
Delight thyself also in the Lord;
And he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
Commit thy way unto the Lord;
Trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
Put me to the test
O taste and see that the Lord is good:
Blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.

And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the Lord, which he spake by Elijah.
Provided by grace accessed by faith
By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
Obedience demonstrated that faith
What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
