Read some letters to mothers
The many hats our Mothers wear
In this Series, “May is Mothers’ Month”, we started looking into some moms whose lives are recorded in the Bible
Mothers who are significant in the history of not just christianity, but of mankind
Last Sunday we looked into the life of Hannah, the mother of Samuel, the prophet who anointed the first 2 kings of Israel, Saul and David
We learned from her a very important character of a good mother and a good christian
We learned from her that “waiting upon the Lord will give us a HEART that worships!”
Waiting leads to Hope, Expectancy, Acts of patience, Renewal and Trust in God
BREATHE!
Today let us see what other hats our mothers should or must wear
Let’s take a look into the life Eunice
Who is Eunice?
Did you know that the King James Bible has 783,137 words
if you type 60 words a minute, it will take you 217 and a half hours to retype the entire Bible
And out of those many words, the name Eunice is only mentioned once. Just once!
This is found in the second epistle/letter of Paul to his spiritual son Timothy some 67 years AD
2 Timothy 1:5 CEV
I also remember the genuine faith of your mother Eunice. Your grandmother Lois had the same sort of faith, and I am sure that you have it as well.
So Eunice is the mother of Timothy (a 3rd Generation Christian), the daughter of Lois
She was a Jewish woman married to a Greek ()
And she was converted to christianity during Paul’s first trip to her home in Lystra
It’s not because her name was mentioned only once in the Bible that she no longer deserve the recognition fitting to her
We have heard a lot about Timothy and his great works as a young pastor of his time
But what most people do not know is the women behind the great accomplishments of Timothy
Eunice his mother, and Lois Eunice’s mother
Let’s glean on what these amazing women have done that greatly influenced the life of Timothy
2 Timothy 3:15 CEV
Since childhood, you have known the Holy Scriptures that are able to make you wise enough to have faith in Christ Jesus and be saved.
Traditionally, it is the father that teaches their children in the law, however, since Timothy’s dad was a greek, his Jewish mother and grandmother served as his examples of faith
There are three things that we can learn from Eunice… and that is LGD

Love Grows Deeper with the help from our Mother

Do you remember the song “Love’s Grown Deep” by Kenny Nolan, it was up on the board of top 20 hits back in 1977
I don’t do this a lot, but today is mother’s day, and the least we can do is to sing for them....
Sing the song “Love’s Grown Deep”
BREATHE!
She passed on a Love for the scriptures
2 Timothy 3:15 CEV
Since childhood, you have known the Holy Scriptures that are able to make you wise enough to have faith in Christ Jesus and be saved.
Traditionally, it is the father that teaches their children in the law, however, since Timothy’s dad was a greek, his Jewish mother and grandmother served as his examples of faith
Mothers, no other thing can create a life-changing dynamics to your children than the truth of the scriptures
Proverbs 22:6 GW
Train a child in the way he should go, and even when he is old he will not turn away from it.
Romans 10:14 GW
But how can people pray to him if they have not believed in him? How can they believe in him if they have not heard his message? How can they hear if no one tells ⌊the Good News⌋?
Romans 10:14 GW
But how can people pray to him if they have not believed in him? How can they believe in him if they have not heard his message? How can they hear if no one tells ⌊the Good News⌋?
The Lord has already provided the recipe for dynamic spiritual life, it is the truth of the Word + faith in Jesus + power of the Holy Spirit
She passed on a Genuine faith
From our text Paul said he saw genuine faith from Eunice that he is also convinced that Timothy also had that kind of genuine faith
2 Corinthians 13:2 NLT
I have already warned those who had been sinning when I was there on my second visit. Now I again warn them and all others, just as I did before, that next time I will not spare them.
2 Corinthians 13:5 NLT
Examine yourselves to see if your faith is genuine. Test yourselves. Surely you know that Jesus Christ is among you; if not, you have failed the test of genuine faith.
Do you know how people in the bank are trained to know if a bill is genuine?
They spent many many hours studying the counterfeit bills in order to know which are genuine and which are not
Unlike other genetical traits that can be inherited by our children, our faith is not hereditary
Not because we follow Christ, that means our children will
Our children will be looking at our ways
Some nights when I am so tired and hungry, I will have dinner as soon as I get home, and to help me get the sleep I badly needed, I will knock down a glass of wine
Jada asked her mother about it one time, and I have to explain to them, and I remember what Paul said to Timothy
1 Timothy 5:23 NLT
Don’t drink only water. You ought to drink a little wine for the sake of your stomach because you are sick so often.
1 Timothy 5:23 GNB
Do not drink water only, but take a little wine to help your digestion, since you are ill so often.
Always remember, our children will always be watching us
Acts 16:1-5
She passed on a Desire to serve others
Acts 16:1–5 GNB
Paul travelled on to Derbe and Lystra, where a Christian named Timothy lived. His mother, who was also a Christian, was Jewish, but his father was a Greek. All the believers in Lystra and Iconium spoke well of Timothy. Paul wanted to take Timothy along with him, so he circumcised him. He did so because all the Jews who lived in those places knew that Timothy’s father was Greek. As they went through the towns, they delivered to the believers the rules decided upon by the apostles and elders in Jerusalem, and told them to obey those rules. So the churches were made stronger in the faith and grew in numbers every day.
Mothers, you have to let your kids go
You have to teach them to serve others
In closing, one last things caught my attention. Where is Timothy’s father?
In it said, that Timothy has a father, he was a Greek
Perhaps he is a good person, spent time with Tim, but it seems that he had zero spiritual influence over his children
T

Closing

Timothy was a mighty man of God because he had a mighty woman of God in his life
Single mothers be encouraged
God can saved a boy’s soul through a godly mother

My Mother: The Light of the World
A little boy forgot his lines in a Sunday school presentation. His mother was in the front row to prompt him. She gestured and formed the words silently with her lips, but it did not help. Her son's memory was blank. Finally, she leaned forward and whispered the cue, "I am the light of the world.? The child beamed and with great feeling and a loud clear voice said, "My mother is the light of the world.?
