Good Morning Church! Covenant Members, would you join me in welcoming all of our first time and returning guests? (applause) So good to see all of you and to be here. I hope you have been made to feel welcome today. This church is about walking out this life together in the RADICAL GRACE of JESUS CHRIST. It’s our heart that here a Concord, that you are made to feel “Know, Loved, and that you Belong.”
Scripture tells us: ESV
but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
That means you don’t have to get it all figured out before you come. You don’t have to put on a mask to be accepted here. You come and we figure it out together…no matter where you are in your spiritual journey. Whatever season you are in, we know the struggle of this sinful world…but we also know that our God is bigger than our circumstances.

(Go back to upbeat)— Also, for our Guests we want to connect with you! You’ll notice inside the program along with the insert is a connect envelope. Later on in our service we will worship through a time of offering together; both guest and member. During our offering portion of worship we will give all of you a moment to fill out the connect envelopes, that also serve as a place you can give any money or financial gift that you would offer to the Lord. During that time you will have an opportunity to be obedient and pray over your gift to the Lord as well. Simply place the Lord’s gift in the envelope; fill out the connect info and during our offering worship, you can place both, the insert and the connect envelope in the offering plate as it passes.Regardless, we desire to connect with you and help you get plugged in.

Stephen leads in reciting the Apostle’s Creed: explain congregation will read this together from the screen (word for word).
Stephen says: We do this as confession and proclamation that God has revealed Himself to us through the Gospel (now if you are here and you are on the fence or not even on the ranch…you don’t have to repeat this with us…you are in a safe place hear. We join together and read this together, as the church, to celebrate this reality of God’s great love for us. So let’s read the APOSTLE’S CREED together.

Stephen: lead directly in to a time of Silent Confession-- explain:
We confess here that “It’s ok to not be ok, but it’s not ok to stay that way.” So one of the ways that we flesh that out is by taking a moment turn our sins over to Christ, because we believe the truth of Scripture as it teaches, “If we confess our sins, He [God] is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us of all unrighteousness” (). It’s within this promise we take our sins to the feet of Jesus. So I want you to read this Scripture as I speak it over you and me as a reminder. To evoke reflection, and confession. Then I will after a moment of solitude in where we seek the face of Jesus and confess.
Read
The Lord is in his holy temple;
the Lord’s throne is in heaven;
his eyes see, his eyelids test the children of man.
The Lord tests the righteous,
but his soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence.
Psalm 11
For the Lord is righteous;
he loves righteous deeds;
the upright shall behold his face.
Let us take a moment to confess our sins…in silence.
Pause in silence for personal confession...

Call to Worship through reading of Scripture: ask everyone to stand as you read it:
Assurance of Pardon
Assurance of Pardon
20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. 23 And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. 24 For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.
And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.

1 Who has believed what he has heard from us?
And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
2 For he grew up before him like a young plant,
and like a root out of dry ground;
he had no form or majesty that we should look at him,
and no beauty that we should desire him.
3 He was despised and rejected by men,
a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief;
and as one from whom men hide their faces
he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
4 Surely he has borne our griefs
and carried our sorrows;
yet we esteemed him stricken,
smitten by God, and afflicted.
5 But he was pierced for our transgressions;
he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
and with his wounds we are healed.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray;
we have turned—every one—to his own way;
and the Lord has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted,
yet he opened not his mouth;
like a lamb that is led to the slaughter,
and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent,
so he opened not his mouth.
8 By oppression and judgment he was taken away;
and as for his generation, who considered
that he was cut off out of the land of the living,
stricken for the transgression of my people?
9 And they made his grave with the wicked
and with a rich man in his death,
although he had done no violence,
and there was no deceit in his mouth.
10 Yet it was the will of the Lord to crush him;
he has put him to grief;
when his soul makes an offering for guilt,
he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days;
the will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.
11 Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied;
by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant,
make many to be accounted righteous,
and he shall bear their iniquities.
12 Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many,
and he shall divide the spoil with the strong,
because he poured out his soul to death
and was numbered with the transgressors;
yet he bore the sin of many,
and makes intercession for the transgressors.
BOTH say: “This is the Word of the LORD.”—then exit.

Happy Mother’s Day to all you MOTHA’ S!!! As a son, husband, and Father, let me just say on behalf of all of my brother’s in Christ and friends joining us today. We love and appreciate and cherish you wonderful ladies who are or were mother’s.
Fellas would show our mom’s some love by way of applause.
Now, not to be the bearer of bad news, BUT, if you came here today expecting a Mother’s Day sermon, you are obviously a guest (btw…welcome!), or you’re someone who has not been sitting under my preaching for very long. Because We don’t do that here.
And let take a moment and speak into that, because it’s not something personal with you ladies, I don’t preach Father’s Day sermons either, at least not in the traditional way. Here’s why...
There are some here today in this room, or have even stayed home because of a situation or circumstance that makes them feel uncomfortable. Whether they have lost a child, have a damaged relationship, or any other reason that could befall any one of us in this sinful world.
So, instead of preaching on traditions and giving out roses to mom’s and what not, I steer away from those things and I drive full speed, unapologetically, with no seat belt on... straight into the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
I don’t have time to tell you how wonderful you are, or pass out roses…instead I want, I’ve been called to make much of Jesus! And this proclamation of the good news of Jesus has a sense of urgency…because two thousand years ago, John the Baptist was heralding, “Repent! For the kingdom of God is at hand.” So the sense of urgency is even greater because we are 2000 years removed Christ’s death, burial, resurrection and ascension, and he has yet to return…but He will. And we must be ready. Amen?
So let’s do work, shall we? Yes we shall.

Now, not to be burst your “Mother’s Day bubble”, BUT, if you came here today expecting a Mother’s Day sermon, you are obviously a guest (btw…welcome!), or you’re someone who has not been sitting under my preaching for very long. Because We don’t do that here.
And let take a moment and speak into that, because I don’t know if everyone gets the intent behind that. Like I’m not anti-celebration of holidays, it’s not nothing personal with you ladies. No, I don’t preach Father’s Day sermons either. At least not in the traditional way. Here’s why...
There are some here today in this room or who have even chosen to stay home because of a situations or circumstances that makes today a very difficult day. Whether they have lost a child, have a damaged relationship, for some it is a painful reminder of bareness, or any other reason that could befall any one of us in this fallen world.
So, let me speak to those who may be here despite that brokenness, and let me say to you, be encouraged not only are you are bereaved on some level, but you are KNOWN, LOVED, and BELONG (whether you know or that, or are skeptical to that) and you are a daughter of King of kings, and Lord of Lords. And for you we pray peace and mercy and encourage you that what the Scripture herald is, that at best, anything good that you experience in this place is this is merely a shadow of the future glory that awaits to those who awaken to the salvation offered through God’s son, Jesus Christ. Instead of making some feel honored and some feel guilt and pain. I would rather honor the One who heals and restores brokenness for all…Jesus. There is grace offered through Jesus for ALL who would receive Him.
So, for the faithful mother, for the broken woman, and for all others, whether distant or skeptical, we preach Christ.
I don’t have any more time to tell you how wonderful you are, (that’s what lunch today or dinner tonight is for and if it’s lunch I’m just saying you’ll probably be late).
Instead I desire; in fact, I’ve been called, to make much of Jesus! And this proclamation of the good news of the radical grace of the gospel, has a sense of urgency…because two thousand years ago, John the Baptist was heralding, “Repent! For the kingdom of God is at hand.” So, the sense of urgency is even greater because we are 2000 years removed Christ’s death, burial, resurrection and ascension, and he has yet to return…but… He will. Last week…we met the disciple Phillip as he was fleeing persecution in Jerusalem and found himself in the middle of a community in Samaria who were open to hear this good news of Jesus Christ crucified on the cross and raised from the dead to life. So, much so it leads to rejoicing through the city, many being baptized. This was such a big deal, even the apostles who were hunkered down at the oppressive ground zero of Jerusalem, were like… “We got to check this out.” So, they came to lay hands on these people so that they would receive the Holy Spirit. As a matter of fact after Peter rebukes Simeon the magician for trying to about the power of the Holy Spirit (in today’s terms we would just say “he straightened him out”)...
25 Now when they had testified and spoken the word of the Lord, they returned to Jerusalem, preaching the gospel to many villages of the Samaritans.
Get this! what we are seeing is another race of people outside the original covenant of God being grafted in and adopted into the New Covenant of God, made possible through the finished work of Jesus Christ, where God, through Jesus, is rescuing all of his children and all of creation; saving them to himself and to each other.
Why? so that they could bring glory to Him, enjoy Him, and enter into DEEP COMMUNITY together; despite their cultural differences; despite their socio-economical differences; despite like which side of the tracks you grew up on…, you were now known, loved, and you belonged to the people of God and his beautiful dysfunctional family.

Here’s what the Holy Spirit is speaking over us today as we see this miraculous work; this is what the Lord is showing us through Phillip and who he will encounter; this is what He is showing us that as we go and interact and encounter people in this fallen world, the Holy Spirit goes before us…He moves in a mighty power that makes dead things come alive. So the take away for today is this truth: TO KNOW JESUS IS TO SHARE JESUS.

So, let’s go see this flesh out as we go with Phillip…
26 Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Rise and go toward the south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” This is a desert place. 27 And he rose and went. And there was an Ethiopian, a eunuch, a court official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of all her treasure. He had come to Jerusalem to worship 28 and was returning, seated in his chariot, and he was reading the prophet Isaiah. 29 And the Spirit said to Philip, “Go over and join this chariot.” 30 So Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, “Do you understand what you are reading?” 31 And he said, “How can I, unless someone guides me?” And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. 32 Now the passage of the Scripture that he was reading was this:
“Like a sheep he was led to the slaughter
and like a lamb before its shearer is silent,
so he opens not his mouth.
33 In his humiliation justice was denied him.
Who can describe his generation?
For his life is taken away from the earth.”
34 And the eunuch said to Philip, “About whom, I ask you, does the prophet say this, about himself or about someone else?” 35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning with this Scripture he told him the good news about Jesus. 36 And as they were going along the road they came to some water, and the eunuch said, “See, here is water! What prevents me from being baptized?” 38 And he commanded the chariot to stop, and they both went down into the water, Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him. 39 And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord carried Philip away, and the eunuch saw him no more, and went on his way rejoicing. 40 But Philip found himself at Azotus, and as he passed through he preached the gospel to all the towns until he came to Caesarea.
Acts 8:
So I’ve titled this message “Share Jesus: Show & Tell”
For the Christian sharing Jesus is "show and tell." ...
How
Do you remember Show and Tell in school? That day you go to bring something in and you would share something that you valued (G.I. JOE, A Doll, or a pet...anybody have the kid that brought the snake? or maybe your were that kid…you need to repent!—Or maybe it was something like a pocket watch that had been handed down form a grandfather, the list goes on at the possibilities.
What was the point of that?
You had the opportunity to share something that was special to you. And how did you do it? First you showed your class and then you told them about it and what it meant to you. Hence show and tell.
That is what this passage is all about Phillip Sharing Jesus by showing Him in the Scriptures and telling the Ethiopian eunuch about Him and the good news of salvation through him.
Why is that a big deal? Because to know Jesus is to share Jesus.
So, we’ve just read this incredible passage with so many things to pull from…but let’s focus on the simple.
So, we’ve just read this incredible passage with so many things to pull from…but let’s focus on the simple.

How did Phillip share Jesus with the Ethiopian eunuch?
How did Phillip share Jesus with the Ethiopian eunuch?
1. He showed Him (vv.26-34)
-by his obedience--listening to the Holy Spirit (vv. 26-29)
29 And the Spirit said to Philip, “Go over and join this chariot.”
-by showing love (vv.29-30)
29 And the Spirit said to Philip, “Go over and join this chariot.” 30 So Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, “Do you understand what you are reading?”
-by helping him understand (vv.31-34)
31 And he said, “How can I, unless someone guides me?” And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.
34 And the eunuch said to Philip, “About whom, I ask you, does the prophet say this, about himself or about someone else?”
Acts 8:
Phillip knew Jesus and was obedient to the Spirit to show this man that Isaiah was pointing forward through prophecy to Jesus. How could he show him that? Because to know Jesus is to share Jesus.
2. He Told Him (v.35)
35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning with this Scripture he told him the good news about Jesus.
Acts
-by opening his mouth (v. 35a)
-by beginning with Scripture (v.35b)
-by telling him the good news about Jesus (v.35 c)
Phillip knew Jesus and told the eunuch about Jesus. Because to know Jesus is to share Jesus.
3. He Baptized Him (vv.36-38)
36 And as they were going along the road they came to some water, and the eunuch said, “See, here is water! What prevents me from being baptized?” 38 And he commanded the chariot to stop, and they both went down into the water, Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him.
How did this impact the eunuch?
-by hearing the gospel his eyes where opened. (v.36) "...see, here is water...")
-by hearing the gospel he was no longer limited (v. 33 -quoting Isaiah spoke to this man, and v.36 "what prevents me...")
It’s important here to see the providence of God and the Holy Spirit at work in both Phillip’s obedience but also the stirring going on within the Ethiopian eunuch.
Let’s first wrap our minds around what a eunuch was or is...
Merriam-Webster defines “a eunuch” this way: 1 : a castrated man placed in charge of a harem or employed as a chamberlain in a palace. 3 : one that lacks virility or power. political eunuchs.
-by hearing the gospel he was obedient (v.38 "he baptized him...")
in v.27, we learn that this Ethiopian eunuch, was a court official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, and was in charge of all her treasure.
Merriam-Webster also says: 2 : a man or boy deprived of the testes or external genitals. 3 : one that lacks virility or power.
-by hearing the gospel he was obedient (v.38 "he baptized him...")
This man had been emasculated, not by his own choosing, but by another’s hand, for a position of servitude. Most likely this would have happened at a young age which would have created all kinds of hormonal imbalances throughout his development.
In an age where gender identity is running rampant, this man did not fight for the right to have a sex change…he was forced to…robbed of God’s design of him, stripped of his manhood.
Can you imagine the humiliation and confusion that this Ethiopian eunuch felt?
But see the grace of this passage and the sovereignty of God… Phillip is called by the Holy Spirit to go to this man. And when he gets to him…what does he find him reading? The prophet Isaiah. Chapter 53—the foretelling of Jesus. The gospel message in the Old Testament.
But look specifically at the passage he was studying a seeking to understand.
33 In his humiliation justice was denied him.
Who can describe his generation?
For his life is taken away from the earth.”
33 There he found a man named Aeneas, bedridden for eight years, who was paralyzed.
Acts 9:33
Do you think this man knew something about humiliation? Do you think he could relate to who this prophet was speaking of because he too was denied justice? Had his life not be altered and stolen from him as it was intended?
By God’s soveriengty he was reading this passage as the HS sent Phillip to explain it. To show him in the Scriptures and to tell him the good news of Jesus! He was able to share Jesus with this man and he saw the Christ stepping into his mess, taking away his sin and shame, no longer finding his identiy as a foreigner or a eunuch, but as one redeemed by Christ! By knowing Jesus, he realized that the Creator of all things loved him and was bigger than his past afflections, present failures and doubts, and future problems. His God was bigger than his circumstances!
He was no longer limited by what society had robbed him of and defined him as: He was a son of God--
36 And as they were going along the road they came to some water, and the eunuch said, “See, here is water! What prevents me from being baptized?”
Nothing!
-by hearing the gospel he was obedient (v.38 "he [Phillip] baptized him...")
-by hearing the gospel he was free (v.39 "...went on his way rejoicing")
This broken, humiliated man had been made whole. He was no longer defined by what he lacked, he was defined by the God that created him and rescued him. The Ethiopian eunuch now had a personal relationship with Jesus and it transformed his identity; it transformed how he saw Himself. He found his value not in what had been done to him or what he had done (past mistakes, dark sins…gone). He was baptized and buried with Christ and raised to knew life and he was now rejoicing. This Ethiopian eunuch was changed by knowing Jesus, and was rejoicing! Because to know Jesus is to share Jesus.
What did Phillip do after this amazing encounter and what should this text teach you and I?
4. HE CONTINUED (vv.39-40) This is where is gets kind of tripy, but it’s so cool!
39 And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord carried Philip away, and the eunuch saw him no more, and went on his way rejoicing. 40 But Philip found himself at Azotus, and as he passed through he preached the gospel to all the towns until he came to Caesarea.
39 And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord carried Philip away, and the eunuch saw him no more, and went on his way rejoicing. 40 But Philip found himself at Azotus, and as he passed through he preached the gospel to all the towns until he came to Caesarea.
"...as he passed through he preached the gospel to all..."
Conclusion
Conclusion
Christian: Do you know Jesus? Because to know Jesus is to share Jesus. What’s keeping your from that? You have the same Holy Spirit to that led Phillip to this Ethiopian eunuch. Phillip was emboldened by that Spirit, are you? Or do you make excuses? There are no excuses! If you know Jesus you share Jesus.
The people God puts in your path are not obstacles, they are opportunities hand picked to use broken vessels like us to proclaim the good news of Jesus and how He has transformed our lives. The best news is it’s not about your presentation, it’s about obedience! It’s not about how well you communicate, it’s about God going before you and what Christ has done for us through the cross!
Skeptic: Understand, whatever this world has robbed you of, what ever confusion shrouds you, whatever pain, hurt and how this world has defined you, that doesn’t mean anything!
Because the good news is in knowing Jesus. He redeemed you past, present, and future on the cross of Calvary. His blood can was clean the fog of confusion. There is no gender identity in Christ. He alone gives you your Identity as son or daughter of God. But you must stop letting this world limit you. You must repent and turn to Jesus. The same sovereign God who led Phillip to the eunuch has led you here today. Just as the eunuch realized and asked Phillip, I ask you, “What prevents you from being baptized?” Nothing but pride. Shed the rags this world would dress you in and take on the royal robe of King Jesus. Repent today. For the Kingdom of God is at hand.
Christian we must continue, learning and teaching Jesus. Because to know Jesus is to share Jesus.
Let me leave you with this verse from the apostle Paul to his young disciple Timothy.
14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it
2 Timothy 3:
Look right at me church…To Know Jesus is To Share Jesus! Show them in your life and in God’s Word. But tell them about what Christ has done to save a wretch like you and I, through His death, burial and resurrection. In Christ alone we are saved. In Christ alone, we are free.
