Sometimes God’s plan calls you to move forward even when your heart is hurting.
1 sam 16
Disappointment and grief must not paralyze you.
There are Christians who have never overcome past failures; past grievances.
You, in your life, may have been hurt in some former church or had some former friend stick a knife in your spiritual ribs or had your plans sabotaged by some event.
As a result, you have been grieving for months, if not years.
You are bound by that mental video tape that replays the past, over and over again.
God called Samuel to go and serve not sit and sulk.
God’s plan calls you to turn to his anointed king.
God is unimpressed with the things that impress men.
David is the youngest of a family of nobodies from the town of nowhere.
Scripture informs us that David had seven brothers and two sisters.
He was the youngest child.
The age span was so great that one of David’s sisters had children who were the same age as David.
So Jesse and his wife have nine children.
They are grown and many of them are married.
Jesse’s wife comes to him and announces, “Jesse, I’m not sure how to tell you this, but I’m pregnant.
We’re going to have a tenth child.”
God uses different criteria in his evaluation.
Here’s the point - our hearts are so focused on the minor, our hearts are so focused on the inconsequential, our hearts are so focused on the meaningless details our hearts miss the major things.
Our hearts get misdirected and we are actually fooled and blind to what is true, what is real, and what is beautiful.
In God’s economy:
In God’s economy:
Bigger is not better.
God wasn’t after a haughty but a humble king.

God empowers his man by the presence of His Spirit.
1 sam 16 14-23
This text doesn’t teach us about salvation.
Salvation is permanent.
Once you are born again (regenerated) by the Spirit of God you can’t be unborn again (un-regenerated).
This text teaches us about identification.
This text doesn’t show us who is saved.
This text shows us who is king.
Saul lives in the castle, wears a crown, but he is not king!
Because God’s king has the anointing of the spirit of God on him!
How do you recognize God’s king?
Look for the anointing of the spirit of God.
Israelite kings were not crowned with a crown, but anointed with oil.
Oil was poured over their heads.
So the king was “the anointed one”.
The Hebrew word for Anointed One in is Messiah.
The Greek Word for Anointed One is Christos.
