7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.
8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
9 In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.
10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
12 No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us.

Who Is God?
Who Is God?
7 Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.
A command is 1st given
Let us love one another
Love is from God
Everyone who loves is born of God
Discuss the Greek word gi-nah-o and what it means
Knows God
You know God by how you love (agape)
8 Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love.
If you do not have this agape love, then you are unfamiliar/have no knowledge of God.
The very nature of God is Love.
What Is Love?
What Is Love?
9 God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him.
God’s love is explained to a group of people who are unsure if they even belong to God or if Jesus is the Christ because of false teachers.
God’s love was made crystal clear to us through the act of sending his son.
It was not that he told us, it was his actions.
What are we saying in regards to loving our brothers and sisters in Christ?
What are we doing in regards to loving our brothers and sisters in Christ?
10 In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.
God did not love us and send his son because we FIRST loved him. It was because He is love.
Propitiation VS Expiation
Propitiation is when there is like an offering made to a god so that he is no longer mad. Sort of getting God to be on their side again.
Expiation is the removal of guilt. We are guilty through the sins we commit but God made a way for that sin to not be stuck on us.
Who Are We?
Who Are We?
11 Beloved, since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another.
Since God showed us such great love, the Bible says in english we ought to, but the Greek word states that we OWE love to one another.
If I buy a McDouble and it costs $1.07 and I pay with a $5 bill, I am owed $3.93. Since God paid with the life of Jesus we owe EACH OTHER agape! He doesn’t ask that change be given to Him only that we have CHANGE WITHIN!
12 No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God lives in us, and his love is perfected in us.
“…his love is perfected in us.”
to be fully accomplished ⇔ be perfected v. — to be or become thoroughly or entirely accomplished; conceived of as becoming perfect or complete.
