What is the most important thing?

What is Love?
What is the most important thing you have to do on Monday?
Tuesday - sunday?
Fill the blanks in with a very 2-3 word description.
Be honest, no one will see your answers unless you desire to show them.
You honest answer, not a churchy answer.
John 21:15–17 ESV
15 When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.” 16 He said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.” 17 He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.
15-
15, do you love me, agape Love.
more than these?
More than the fish? More than your old way of life? More than anything and everything?
YES.
OK, Feed my Lambs.
lams are the picture of helpless total halpless animal.
vs 16.
Do you love me?
Yes, You know I do Lord.
ok, tend my sheep.
Sheep need lots of help but arent totally enabled like a lamb.
vs 17,
Do you love me?
Peter is now crushed. Why?
in vs 15 Jesus asked Peter if he loved him, Agape Love, Peter yes I love you, Phelio love, we tight Lord!
The Lord is asking It Peter loved Him unconditionally. To Love and expect nothing in return.
Peter said We Tight, Yes I love you, we brothers. as in brotherly love.
in vs 16 Jesus asked same again, Peter responds the same way the second time. We tight Lord. Brotherly Love.
Jesus excepts this from Peter,
We see thins as Jessus commands him to serve Him.
But in vs 17, Jesus askes Peter if they were tight? Peter do you phielo love me? Brotherly Love me.
Peter is crushed.
Jesus has given back to Peter the love he is giving to Jesus.
Now I want Jesus to Love me in the most possible way.
So Jesus says to me, Do you love me Greg, I say yes I love you Lord.
But the Lord kknows my heart.
He knows I am ok with Him, He knowss I have a Love for Him but He also knows that it isnt the same Love He has for me.
Thenn The Lord ask me again, Greg Do you Love Me?
Then I say Lord you know I love you?
Jesus says yep, I know, you have a phelio Love for me.
Then Jesus ask me, Greg Do you Phelio Love me.
What Jesus is asking me is do i just Love Him to be saying I love Him, and in saying I love Him he knows I love Him but its not the same Love He has for me.
Suddenly I find myself crushed.
you see Jesus Loved me so much that He willingly died for me.
But yet I wont follow Him, I wont follow Him no matter what.
I relise This is what Jesus is saying to me and I am crushed.
This is what is happening here with Peter.
What is Jesus saying here?
Love.
What is the most important command of all?
What is the most important command of all?
Duet 6
Deuteronomy 6:4–5 ESV
“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.
36-
Matthew 22:36–38 ESV
36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment.
Nothing is of greater importance than Loveing The Lord!
If we fail to take this seriously, we may find at the end of our lives that all our works counted for nothing!
God wants us to be before we do!
To Love First!
we need to look at verse 17 real good.
John 21:17 ESV
17 He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.
Lord you know everything about me!
Oh this is so true,
The bible tells us that He knew us before He even knit us together in our mothers womb.
My daddy knows me,
My wife knows me, My kids know me,
But all of them together dont come close to knowing me like the Lord knows me.
Jesus knows every little detail in our lives.
He knows our thoughts and He also knows why we think the way we do.
He knows all details of each of us.
Imagine yourself on a beach, all alone with Jesus.
The backdrop is eternity awaiting.
jesus looks at you with His all knowing eyes and asks, Do you love me?
Do you love me the waay I love you?
Or do you just Love me but yet their are other things that you Love more or just as much as me Jesus ask?
How many times have you missed being with me so you could be with that?
How many times have you missed being with that so you could be with me?
Jesus is asking?
Jesus wants to be Loved above and before anything or anyone else.
Some may find that they wish they Loved Him more, thats a good thing.
How can you do this?
Spend more time with Him.
The more time with Him the More you will love Him.
When we are asked , Do you love me?
Can we saay Lord you know everything about me, you know I love you.
For some people they find their Love for the Lord as a result out of serving Him.
Serving God dosent prove we Love Him.
Its also true that we can not Love the Lord without serving Him.
Peter said He did Love the Lord, and I beleive He did as the Lord gave him a three fold commision.
Feed my lambs.
Tend my sheep
Feed my sheep.
2 Corinthians 5:14–15 ESV
14 For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; 15 and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised.
The Love of Christ Controls us, It compells us.
The love for Christ also means that we no longer live for ourselves. But for Christ.
Jesus said in 14:21
John 14:21 ESV
21 Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.”
If you love me, you will keep my commands.
This is the ones who love me.
When we love Jesus, we will also hear Him.
To Love Jesus will also mean we will suffer for Him as well.
Look at what God told Aninais.
Acts
Acts 9:15–16 ESV
15 But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen instrument of mine to carry my name before the Gentiles and kings and the children of Israel. 16 For I will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name.”
In , Jesus also told Peter that he too would suffer for Him.
John 21:18 ESV
18 Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were young, you used to dress yourself and walk wherever you wanted, but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will dress you and carry you where you do not want to go.”
Philippians 1:29 ESV
29 For it has been granted to you that for the sake of Christ you should not only believe in him but also suffer for his sake,
The Love of Jesus will grip His followers so much that they will no longer want to live for themselves but for Him!
And this will mean obedience, missions, hardships and sufferings.
If our lives are chartcheterized by ease, if we have no probelms because of our christianty then somethings wrong!
If the churcch would comprimise less the church would suffer more!
If the church were to maintain a high moral standards of Jesus,
if we were to dare talk plainly about the alternitives of life and death, salvation and judgement, Heaven and Hell.
Then the world would rise up and be angry against us.
Jesus wanted Peter to know that if he would be serving Him then he would be diffucult.
This is what Jesus wants us to know as well!
Carring the title Christian will never offend anyone!
Following Jesus will!
Because in following Jesus, in Loving Jesus will compell us to be obedient to Jesus word.
This will bring about sufferings!
John 21:20 ESV
20 Peter turned and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them, the one who also had leaned back against him during the supper and had said, “Lord, who is it that is going to betray you?”
What about Him or Her?
John 21:21 ESV
21 When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, “Lord, what about this man?”
John 21:22 ESV
22 Jesus said to him, “If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow me!”
Dont worry about anyone else, Focus on me Jessus says. Follow me.
Dont concern yourself with others. Just Follow me.
Look at vs 23
John 21:23 ESV
23 So the saying spread abroad among the brothers that this disciple was not to die; yet Jesus did not say to him that he was not to die, but, “If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you?”
A rumor done got started,
They had this problem back in this day as well.
How in the world did this happen?
who started this mess?
Peter did!
Peter done got restored and started rumors already.
Peter couldnt help himself at times,
Peter was just like us.
He constantly messed up and found himself in a little mess now and then.
But we do know something else about Peter,
He did Love Jesus,
He was restored By Jesus,
Peter did recognize that by himself and without Jesus he couldnt do anything. and that all that He did do was unfruitful.
Peter also found that when He Loved Jesus He followed Jesus, and when this happened He was used by the Lord in a powerful way.
The first time He followed the command of Jesus in 21 was when Jesus said throw the net over the right sideof the boat and they caught 153 fish.
The second Time Peter threw out the net he caugt over 3000!
With Jesus we can do anything His Word tells us, without Jesus we come empty everytime!
The very first command He gave Peter he gives to us.
Jesus told Peter just as He is telling each of us,
wheter you are a new believer or a seasoned believer His command is the same as it was in the beginning,
Follow me,
If You Love Me Jesus says.
If You Love Me Jesus says.
