Retribution from God 1-39
Restoration by God 40-66
Section 1- Restoration by Cyrus Chapters 40-48
Section 2- Restoration by Jesus Chapters 49-57
Section 3- Restoration by the Hand of God Chapters 58-66
Tonight we begin the study of the Restoration brought about by Jesus, even though He was rejected by His people.
There are some deeply theological passages in these chapters, rich with verses that help us understand who Jesus was (would be) and what He has done (would do)
A Redeemer for All People
This is seen verse 1 “Coastlines” verse 6 “ I will make you a light for the nations, salvation to the ends of the earth.”
Purposed before birth
Piercing Words
Protected
God says He will be glorified in the Servant and calls Him “Israel” I believe this is Jesus who was the IDEAL ISRAEL.
Remember Israel was the name given to Jacob ( the conniver) after God changed His life.
Israel was to be one through whom all peoples of the earth were to be blessed.
What Jacob started Jesus does perfectly.
Little is much, because God was in it.
Verse 4
He would gather Israel, 5
He would gather from everywhere 6
A Redeemer Kept by the Hand of God
Despised and rejected… It is a theme of this section of Isaiah.
God has his hand on Jesus, Phil. says because Jesus condescended to die on the cross, God has given him a highly exalted name.
A Redeemer Who Restores
There is a end-of-time implication in these verses.
Restoration of land
Possession of inheritances
Release of captives
Return to the land.
There are those who picture this as something that has happened in history.
There are those who believe these promises should simply be seen as spiritual.
(I read this week where a Christian man who said “The Church is Israel.
Not this fake nation” in reference to the move of the embassy to Jerusalem.)
I think he is wrong.
There are too many prophecies in relationship to the LAND of Israel for me to not believe that God still has a plan for them.
On the other hand:
There are those who go to great lengths to find a Zionist prophetic fullfillment in everything that happens.
Blood moons… the assasination of Yitzak Rebin… The modern day state of Israel… the recognition of Jerusalem by America.
We can get so hung up on the future details that we miss the point, Jesus is a Redeemer.
He restores the broken.
He puts lives back together.
He puts marriages back together.
He bring prodigals home… He makes wrong things right.
