The Promise

Acts 1:8 MEV
But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Pentecost Sunday. Many of you may not even realize that today is Pentecost Sunday.
What makes today Pentecost Sunday? Pentecost Sunday is celebrated 50 days after Resurrection Sunday. It is the day that marks the coming of the Holy Spirit and the Baptism by him of those that were meeting in the upper room.
Acts 2:1–4 MEV
When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like a mighty rushing wind came from heaven, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. There appeared to them tongues as of fire, being distributed and resting on each of them, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to speak.
This marked the beginning of what we just read in that when the Holy Spirit comes on a person that you receive power to be witnesses.
This is not the only place we see the promise of the Holy Spirit Jesus also speaks about it in
John 14:15–17 MEV
“If you love Me, keep My commandments. I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Counselor, that He may be with you forever: the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, for it does not see Him, neither does it know Him. But you know Him, for He lives with you, and will be in you.
John 14
Jesus said he would ask the father to send us a helper. Someone who can be our Counselor
Have you ever been in a tough place. You just didnt know what to do? Sadly today we tell everyone to find a counselor but we dont refer them to the best counselor.
Dont get me wrong, human counselors are great so I am not discounting them but as Christians we have a greater counselor that is with us at all times that we should go to first.
If we went to him first we would see things operate so differently in our lives.
Decisions we make would be made off of his counsel not just human thoughts.
Here is what Isaiah tells us.
Isaiah 55:6–9 MEV
Seek the Lord while He may be found, call you upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return to the Lord, and He will have mercy upon him, and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon. For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways, says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.
Is. 55:
His thoughts are higher than yours. His ways are higher than yours.
Oh but Pastor I just have to figure it out on my own. Do you?
Let me ask you, this week a horrible mass killing happened in Texas with
If we allow the Holy Spirit to baptize us he can give us direction.
It is hard to do. Some of you might be like me, you love to have control.
I tell people all the time I don’t drink alcohol and aside from spiritual reasons I don’t want to allow an outside substance to control me.
I see these people that drink and say I just need to take the edge off, not me. I want to have control of my thoughts and my body.
That is what is hard when it comes to receiving the Holy Spirit baptism.
We have to let go of control.
Notice I didn’t say lose control. Paul tells us that even with the moving of the Holy Spirit that every thing should be done in order.
God is not a God of disorder.
We have to give control so that the Holy Spirit can do the work that needs done in each of us.
Listen to this testimony of a believer being baptized in the Holy Spirit.

The passion, the drive, the excitement that happened after he was Baptized in the Holy Spirit.
This is available for every believer we just have to give up our control and allow him to baptize us.
Now you may be asking, How do I know I have been baptized in the Holy Spirit? There are many questions that you may have concerning this but the most simple way to know is the way that the believers in the New Testament new.
They spoke in Tongues (Languages of men and of heaven that they did not know)as the Spirit gave the utterance.
Peter, after he was baptized in the Holy SPirit, stood up and said.
Acts 2:
Acts 2:14–18 MEV
But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice and said to them, “Men of Judea and all you who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to my words. For these are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is the third hour of the day. But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: ‘In the last days it shall be,’ says God, ‘that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. Even on My menservants and maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy.
This is the promise and it is continuing to be fulfilled today. The Promise is for everyone who is a Believer in Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
