A LIFE WELL LIVED

Today we are goiing to be talking about dying with grace, dying with dignity. i I know the subject of tdeath is not one that is comfortable, in fact it is one of the most iuncomfortable subjects that anyone can discuss. But there has been a recent study released with over 6000 years of data, and the experts have concluded that 10 out of every 10 people die. but there was a glitch in the data, there was some guy about 2000 years ago that some how beat the odds when he came out of the grave. But for everyone else, it is most certainly that you and everyone that you know, love or hate will certainly die.
Death is not comfortable, it is not easy, but ignoring it will not make it go away. Living fast and furiously, wild and reckless will certainly not make it go away, but usher it in closer.
There was a study recently released
I don’t know if you know this or not but there was a conclusive study released that was recently released, that pulled data from over 6000 years human history. And the study concluded that that 10 out of every 10 people die! Well there was a glitch in the study. just a small glitch, nothing to really worry about 2000 years ago when this man reportedly came back from the dead! But it is almsot certain that you , your momma, your kids and their kids of your great, great grandkids are going to die.
Time is not on our side. I realize this every Saturday night when i am trying to get a sermon finished! Death is not an easy subject, but it is a fact of life, that there will be death. And ignoring the subject will not make it go away. nobody likes to think about death, well almost no body, I like to think about it often. Not in a morbid way, but I like to ponder those moments before death. When I pass from this life onto the next. What will I see. I want to have a vision right before I pass of the Lord. I want my loved ones to be around and have a glimpse of heaven . I want to stand boldly before the Lord One day and hear well done, good and faithful servant. When I was first saved, the Lord often gave me these epiphanies or visions of myself, like seeing my self in ultra high def, completely whole, completely healed. And I believe He did that because he knew that I was going to need that encouragement when I face the trials that have faced.
So all that to say this, you are not ready to live until you are no longer afraid to die. And there is wisdom in thinking about your day of death, because that is the finish line. Now that finsih line may be closer than you think but regardless you and I need to be ready for whenever we cross it.
Psalm 39:4–5 ESV
“O Lord, make me know my end and what is the measure of my days; let me know how fleeting I am! Behold, you have made my days a few handbreadths, and my lifetime is as nothing before you. Surely all mankind stands as a mere breath! Selah
Psalm 39:4
Psalm 90:12 ESV
So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.
Now here is a revolutionary thought. Death is actually a mercy from God. You say well that is just the craziest thing I have ever heard. Well it may be that doesn’t make it untrue. You say ok show me that from scripture!
Genesis 3:22–24 ESV
Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of us in knowing good and evil. Now, lest he reach out his hand and take also of the tree of life and eat, and live forever—” therefore the Lord God sent him out from the garden of Eden to work the ground from which he was taken. He drove out the man, and at the east of the garden of Eden he placed the cherubim and a flaming sword that turned every way to guard the way to the tree of life.
Genesis 3:22-24
You say how was it compassion? It was compassion because if man had eaten this tree of life, he would have remained in this wretched sin cursed condition for all of eternity. For those born blind, could you imagine being blind for an eternity. Could you imagine going through the storms of life for an eternity. Could you imagine the dictators of the world, the violent men that we see ruling over humans forever! Death was a mercy, because God had a plan, and that plan involved God’s Son the Lord jesus Christ, who would come die a death that we all deserved but also became out champion because He paved a way through death and hell, and for those in Christ, though they will die, yet they will live. There is coming a day when the trumpet will sound and the dead in Christ will be ressurected!! And that tree of Life will be ggiven to the nations
Revelation 22:1–3 ESV
Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him.
Now I am giving you the end of the story. The ultimate and perfect plan of Almighty God! There is going to be healing for the nations. There is going to be a return to the garden, and no longer will there be any need for faith for we will see God face to face. I hope that you are there with me. Not everyone will be there. Though death is nothing to fear, What the Bible describesas the second death and certainly something to fear.
Revelation 22:1-
Revelation 21:8 ESV
But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”
Revelation 21:
So today we are going to talk about a Life Well Lived. And a Dying Grace
A Couple of weeks ago we began to study the Life of Joseph. And just as a reminder Joeph was the great Grandson of Abraham. Abraham had Isaace, isaac had Jacob and Jacob had 12 sons, one being Joseph. Now today we are not going to so much look at the life of Joseph but that of Jacob.
INTRO INTO JACOB. Jacob was truly a man that was transformed by grace. Before He came to be born again, he was a liar, a deceiver, a manipulative, scheming type of man. Like many of the great men of the bible. He had a past, that was transformed into a glorious future.
And we jump into the eend of the story. Where Jospehp was mistreated, He was wrongly accused. He suffered at the hands of the Wicked, Yet God lifted Him up made Him a Saviour to his own people and the entire world. And now Jacob has been restored to His son Jospeh.
But now the Time has come for Jacob to die.
Genesis 47:28–29 ESV
And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years. So the days of Jacob, the years of his life, were 147 years. And when the time drew near that Israel must die, he called his son Joseph and said to him, “If now I have found favor in your sight, put your hand under my thigh and promise to deal kindly and truly with me. Do not bury me in Egypt,
Genesis 47:28–31 ESV
And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years. So the days of Jacob, the years of his life, were 147 years. And when the time drew near that Israel must die, he called his son Joseph and said to him, “If now I have found favor in your sight, put your hand under my thigh and promise to deal kindly and truly with me. Do not bury me in Egypt, but let me lie with my fathers. Carry me out of Egypt and bury me in their burying place.” He answered, “I will do as you have said.” And he said, “Swear to me”; and he swore to him. Then Israel bowed himself upon the head of his bed.
Genesis 47:28
Genesis 47:28-
There is a time appointed, when you will meet the grave, but listen just in case you are thinking : Man I should have stayed hoem in bed. Listen this is not a downer message. It is quite upbeat
Psalm 116:15 ESV
Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.
What Kids had to say about death:

(1) “Everybody has to die sometime, even if you don’t want to.” (2) “When you die, God takes care of you like your mother did when you were alive, only God doesn’t yell at you all the time.” (3) “You have to be old before you can die, because God seems to love old people best.” Isn’t that neat? Or here’s a good one: (4) “God doesn’t tell you when you’re going to die, because He wants it to be a big surprise.” Here’s another one; I especially took note of this one: (5) “Only the good people go to heaven; the other people go to where it’s hot all the time, like Florida.” And then a little child said, (6) “Everyone is scared to die, except the people who are already dead.” Or here’s one: (7) “A good doctor can help you so that you won’t die. A bad doctor sends you to heaven.” (8) “When you die, you don’t have to do homework in heaven, unless your teacher is there too.” Most of them won’t be there, I thought, when I was a little boy. Here’s one we all ought to pay attention to: (9) “Grown-ups who smoke die before grown-ups who don’t smoke. Grown-ups who smoke must be in a hurry to die.” Amen? All right, here’s another one, everybody, and this is the last one I want to share. There were many more. I selected these, but I just wanted this one to be last, because I think it is so great: (10) “Everyone cries when somebody dies, because they don’t want to be left behind.” Isn’t that beautiful?

I. Jacob had a Forgiving Lord with Him

Genesis 48:1–3 ESV
After this, Joseph was told, “Behold, your father is ill.” So he took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim. And it was told to Jacob, “Your son Joseph has come to you.” Then Israel summoned his strength and sat up in bed. And Jacob said to Joseph, “God Almighty appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan and blessed me,
Gen 48:
Now Israel and Jacob is one and the same. So Joseph hears that His Daddy is sick and that he is about to die. And when Israel gets strength and and told him about when he got saved. “ God Almighty appeared to bme at Luz in the Land of Canaan and blessed me. And Jacob gives his testimony of his salvation experience.
Jacobs naem means coniver, deciever, but when He gets saved His name is Changed to “Israel” which means Prince with God!
Where did he get saved? At a place called Luz! Do you know what Luz means ? It means separation. Now if there was ever a man that was seperated from God it was Jacob, the coniver, jacob the deciever, But one night He has a wresting match with the Lord Jesus Christ
In is the place of Jacobs conversion and He goes to this place of Luz and he is all alone. in the deserts burdened down with the cares of this life. He is in such a hard palce that 28:11 says that he takes a stone and uses it for a pillar. The way of the transgressor is hard… And there at luz , burdened down, resting his head on a pillow He has a dream… And the dream was that there was a ladder and behold the angels were ascending and decending, and God establishes his covenant with him, and when he awakes he was afraid and said how awesome is this place!! And then in verse 18
Genesis 28:18–19 ESV
So early in the morning Jacob took the stone that he had put under his head and set it up for a pillar and poured oil on the top of it. He called the name of that place Bethel, but the name of the city was Luz at the first.
Genesis 28:18
When jaacob was at his lowest, that is the place where he found God. and The stone that he was using for a pillow was then truned and sused as a pillar. A pillar is something of remembarence. Oh grace beautiful grace.! In verse 16 Jacob says “Surely the Lord was in this place and I did not know it”!
So many testimonies in this room is like that. When we were at our lowestest, using a rock for a pillow, Lonley, afraid, abandoned and abused, just when we got to that place of despair, somethig happened and our senses were heightened our awarness was raised, and that wasted desolate place was where the Lord was! And we come to the Lord… before we were singing I am too sexy for my shirt, too sexy for my shirt, and all of a sudden, sin, and poor choices takes that shirt away and then we come to realize trhat is where god is. And that rock that we were using for a pillow. That thing that was a burden in our life, then becomes a pillar. I know that I’m not where I want to be, but thank God I’m not who I used to be!!
Adrian Rogers Sermon Archive I. Jacob Had a Forgiving Lord with Him

One night I spent almost all night in a hospital with a dying man, sat by his side, and the doctor said, “He’s going to die at any moment.” I watched his chest as it heaved and went in. Finally, he opened his eyes and looked at me and recognized one more time that it was his pastor. And through those languid eyes he gazed at me for a moment, and I saw a smile play around the corners of his lips, and this is what he said to me before he stepped out to meet God. He said, “Pastor, my sins are all under the blood.” Amen? That’s the way to die: with your sins all under the blood.

AND LUZ - THAT PLACE OF DESOLATION, BECAME BETHEL- WHICH MEANS HOUSE OF HOUSE OF GOD..,.. For that is where He met God face to Face

JACOB HAD A FRUITFUL LIFE BEHIND HIM

gENESIS 48:
Genesis 48:4 ESV
and said to me, ‘Behold, I will make you fruitful and multiply you, and I will make of you a company of peoples and will give this land to your offspring after you for an everlasting possession.’
Adrian Rogers Sermon Archive II. Jacob Had a Fruitful Life behind Him

Charles “Tremendous” Jones said that near his house, there was a tremendous flood, and it flooded his basement. And down in his basement he had his study. And he had all of his notes, and he had all of his books, had all of his letters, and he had all of his little goodies, you know, his letters from the President, and his citations, and all of those little rewards and everything, had them all filed away down there, and all of those things he worked so hard for. And it rained and just flooded that place and then filled it up with mud. And he went in there: everything was ruined. There was two or three feet of mud in the basement. It was all gone. He said “Oh, my gosh! Look at this! All my life’s work, it’s gone!” And he carried it to the Lord. And this is what Charles Jones said the Lord said to him: “Don’t worry about it, Charlie. I was going to burn it all up anyway.” I think that’s tremendous. “Now, don’t worry about it. I was going to burn it all up anyway.”

GOD TOOK THIS OLD MAN AND MADE him a blessing .
In
Genesis 47:7 ESV
Then Joseph brought in Jacob his father and stood him before Pharaoh, and Jacob blessed Pharaoh.
Genesis
Jacob who was the lesser man in the eyes of the Egyptians is the greater man in the eyes of God. For Jacob comes in and blesses Pharoah.
Jacob was a man that fell plenty, stumbled often
But the Lord was the One that had made Jacob fruitful.
Yes Jacob was a man who was saved by grace but he also bore fruit by grace.
He not only had a forgiving Lord but he also had a fruitful life .
Jacob didn’t meet the Lord empty handed
The Bible says that there is also going to be a judgment for the believer. And some will completely have their workds burned up.
Your works don’t get you too heaven, they follow you to heaven!
Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven
Adrian Rogers Sermon Archive II. Jacob Had a Fruitful Life behind Him

Oh,” you say, “well, you don’t have to do good works to get to heaven. I’ll just go to heaven by the grace of God.” Do you know what Billy Sunday called that? “Burning the candle of life for the devil and blowing the smoke in God’s face.”

JACOB HAD A FUTURE LIGHT AROUND HIM-
Genesis 49:10 ESV
The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until tribute comes to him; and to him shall be the obedience of the peoples.
Genesis 49:10
Jacob is now on His deathbed and he is speaking a prophetic blessing into the Life of His 12 sons. These would become the 12 tribes of Israel, throughout the rest of the book you will see these tribes. But Judah is one that He speaks into that was a light around Jacob and is a light around us
Even on His deathbed God gave Jacob one more vision of the Messiah. The savioutr wqho would come from Abraham, Who would come thrhoguh Isaac, who would come through Jacob and who would come trhough Judah. The Messiah had to be born from the tribe of Judah. That is why Jesus is called the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. This was a messianic
CONCLUSION-
Adrian Rogers Sermon Archive V. Jacob Had Faithful Loved Ones Awaiting Him

And I didn’t know whether Dr. Lee was going to heaven right then, but I thought certainly it was about that time, because the sense of God’s Spirit was so real. But then suddenly Dr. Lee opened his eyes, those piercing blue eyes—and he had lost his eyesight, most of it, but his eyes were so beautifully clear—and he came out of that coma. And Hildred leaned over to him and said, “Papa, Billy Graham’s here, and he came to see you.” And Dr. Lee reached that old hand up that held that Bible so many times, and that hand that had comforted so many people, and put it around Billy Graham’s neck, and pulled him down, and kissed him, and embraced him. Then he lapsed back into that coma. He didn’t die right then.

Later on, he said to Hildred, “Hildred, I see heaven.” She said, “Tell me about it, Papa.” He said, “It’s beautiful.” He said, “I never did it justice.” You know his great sermon, “The Place Called Heaven”? He said, “I never did it justice.” And then he said, “And, Hildred, I see my mother. And she’s beautiful—she’s beautiful.”

Jacob was gathered to his people—gathered to his people—a family reunion in heaven, faithful loved ones awaiting him.

Conclusion

No wonder the Bible says, “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.” (Psalms 116:15) By and by, when the morning comes, we’ll be gathered home.

Isaiah 54:17 ESV
no weapon that is fashioned against you shall succeed, and you shall refute every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord and their vindication from me, declares the Lord.”
