Theme: When Christians eat, they demonstrate the grace of God’s people toward others. In this passage Jesus shows us in one act that it is not the righteous that are accepted into the community of God, but those that are sinners. Jesus sacrifices His reputation by identifying with an outcast. So, Jesus not only flips the social order upside down, by welcoming sinners, but it challenges it by showing that sinners welcome Him. He uses this meal to challenge the structures of a society, to show what the kingdom pf God looks like.
