Shortly after Peter drew his sword and struck another man the disciples scattered and Jesus was led away to the first of 6 trials that He would appear before. At the trial conducted by the Roman govenor, Pontious Pilate, Pilate gets a message from his wife who had a dream. She implores him to have nothing to do with Jesus who is a righteous man. Pilate washes his hands from the situation after trying to reason with the mob.
1 Have you ever tried to reason with some mob mentality minded people? Were you able to sway their position? Or let us reverse the question - have you ever been mob mentality minded, and what was the final outcome? What does kingdom living call for us to do in such a situation?
We are actually called to righteousness, whether in a crowd or not. We are also told we may suffer for His name’s sake.
Matthew actually only mentions one trial before Pilate and one accusation that jesus is the King of the Jews. The kingship of this book is the main theme.
2 What other accusations were presented?
3. What does it mean to truly be under His kingship?
