Paul Contended for the Gospel
Paul Contended for the Gospel
He sought confirmation from the other apostles, but he did not submit to those who claimed authority that had not been given by God.
Some Pharisees had claimed to become believers and were using their knowledge to demand the Jewish and Gentile converts keep the Old Testament ceremonial law.
Paul detailed before the early apostles the Gospel he was preaching.
God’s Character -
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.

Offense of Sin -
Offense of Sin -
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.
Sufficiency of Christ - the heart of the Gospel
Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
Rom 5:
For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.
Personal Response
because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
Eternal Urgency
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Life Transformation
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
God Confirmed the Gospel (2:6-9a)
God Confirmed the Gospel (2:6-9a)
It was evident that God was at work through Paul’s ministry. (Titus and others)
It was confirmed when Cornelius and his house believed. Peter recalled to the Counsel.
and he made no distinction between us and them, having cleansed their hearts by faith. Now, therefore, why are you putting God to the test by placing a yoke on the neck of the disciples that neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear? But we believe that we will be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, just as they will.”
Salvation is God’s unique work in the heart of an individual.
To add anything to the Gospel is to lessen the greatness of God, the offense of our sin, and the sufficiency of Christ to save. It will only result in lives that are not transformed by the power and freedom of Grace.
The Apostles Commended Paul’s Gospel Ministry
The Apostles Commended Paul’s Gospel Ministry
They gave them the right hand of fellowship. They were in agreement that Paul was preaching the same Gospel they were. See
