Shooting in Santa Cruz
4 hour drive
Brutal murder of 10 individuals
This is no longer just a gun issue… This is a violence issue.
So much violence
Gaza and Israel, 60 killed
Why do you think there is so much violence?
Atheists say violence happens because God is violent
How does God feel about violence?
How God Feels
How God Feels
16 There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: 17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18 a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, 19 a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.
Prov 6:
Cain spoke to Abel his brother. And when they were in the field, Cain rose up against his brother Abel and killed him.
God is love, yet God also hates certain things.
Beginning of time
Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight, and the earth was filled with violence.
And God said to Noah, “I have determined to make an end of all flesh, for the earth is filled with violence through them. Behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
Reason for universal destruction = violence and evil
Why does God hate violence?
Same reason a parent hates the idea of their child getting attacked
Reasons:
Made in His image
We belong to Him
We are loved by Him
We are eternally precious to Him
Violence attacks that image of God

What does Hollywood portray violence? What about the Media/News? Do you think that violence is glamorized or encouraged for problem solving in our culture?
What ways does our society say are acceptable forms of violence? (Answers we’re looking for: vengeance, abortion, physical fighting in a dispute, etc.)
What are some biblical examples of violence? Are any of them justifiable?
Examples of unacceptable violence: Cain and Abel (), anything else you can think of?
Examples of justified violence: David attacking Israel’s enemies (), anything else you can think of?
Read . Now consider this: Movies and video games are not real life, but they can certainly be too violent. How do you determine what is too violent and what is acceptable?
How does violence affect how we see other people?
Bonus Question:
Read . Who or what is the Law protecting? What does night time and daylight have to do with being guilty of bloodshed/murder?
2 If a thief is found breaking in and is struck so that he dies, there shall be no bloodguilt for him, 3 but if the sun has risen on him, there shall be bloodguilt for him. He shall surely pay. If he has nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.

Explain
God hates violence
Even our thoughts condemn us!
21 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’ 22 But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire.
Who has sinned?
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
What’s the penalty for sinners?
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Does God give us what we deserve?
8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
God hates it when blood is shed, but the blood of Christ is different.
Christ died a violent death
Why?
If you struggle with violent thoughts,
21 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’ 22 But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire.
Leave justice to God and seek to forgive, but also be willing to defend yourself
He said to them, “But now let the one who has a moneybag take it, and likewise a knapsack. And let the one who has no sword sell his cloak and buy one.
And he said to them, “When I sent you out with no moneybag or knapsack or sandals, did you lack anything?” They said, “Nothing.” He said to them, “But now let the one who has a moneybag take it, and likewise a knapsack. And let the one who has no sword sell his cloak and buy one. For I tell you that this Scripture must be fulfilled in me: ‘And he was numbered with the transgressors.’ For what is written about me has its fulfillment.”
Go and share the Gospel of peace
PRAY (no worship)
:
Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”
