Let’s all stand for the reading of God’s Word…turn to...
Therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God.
Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner. For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel. For as the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, even so the Son gives life to whom He will.
For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son, that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.

When a person does something spectacular the normal reaction is to honor the person.
Usually when you are the first to do something you are honored.
When you are the best at something you are honored.
When you save lives you are honored.
When you achieve something against very signifiant opposition you are honored yet we see in our text that Jesus, instead of being honored for doing something very amazing and great the Jews began trying to kill him!
Killing someone is the opposite of honoring them.
The Jews had their reasons....
Therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God.

So the Jewish leaders thought they had justification to dishonor Jesus because he had broken the sabbath and because he said the God was his father which meant that he was making himself equal with God.
This was fake news. Jesus did not break the sabbath. He is the Lord of the sabbath. He is God therefore He can not sin.
For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
And secondly Jesus was equal with God. That was the truth. The Jewish leaders chose to not believe it although they had evidence that he had power over sickness and the body. He just healed a man who had been crippled for 38 years!
Why could they not honor God?
Why couldn’t they be amazed and happy that Jesus had done something so good for this man?
It was because like Jesus said....
You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.
There is nothing new going on today. People are still making the decision to not honor Jesus because they have chosen to not believe He is who He says he is.
The fact is there is not valid argument for not honoring Jesus. THis morning we will glean four undeniable reasons from our text that you should honor Jesus with everything you have!
The first reason you should honor Jesus is

If you can praise an all powerful God you can praise and honor His Son who is an instrument in His service.
When Jesus responded to the Jews he make it clear in verse 19......
Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.
Jesus does the same wonderful works a loving, perfect, all-knowing and powerful God does!

For I have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak.
Jesus did what the Father wanted
I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work.
Illustration of a person who gets accolades for doing what they were trained to do....like a person who saved lives based on what he was trained to do. They get the award and they basically deflect the praise because “I was just doing what I was trained to do” “I followed the emergency procedures etc. There should be one in reader’s digest.
God is great! He deserves our praise (1 Chronicles 16:25)
For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised;
He is also to be feared above all gods.

Get this.......You can comprehend how great God and Jesus are. You can’t even imagine it!!! Because of this you should praise God! You should lift up His name!
Oh, give thanks to the Lord!
Call upon His name;
Make known His deeds among the peoples!
People always talk about celebrating life. They worship their life.
They spend so much time capturing their life in pictures.
What they like.
Who they like.
What they like to eat.
What they like to see.
But they don’t’ consider celebrating the creator. He created all things. Without him there is nothing. The best things in life that you enjoy and crave came from him!
And so when you think of the greatness of God you must also honor Jesus because He is equally as great.
There is another reason you should Honor Jesus....
For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel.

The most amazing thing a person has ever done is die and come back to life!
Jesus did this!
If Jesus died and just stayed in the grave then we would not be here today.
In order to do amazing tings you need to have amazing resources.
Jesus has access to all power
The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand.
This world is marvellous and Jesus was there at the beginning of this world He created for us to live on...
“The Lord formed me from the beginning,
before he created anything else.
I was appointed in ages past,
at the very first, before the earth began.
I was born before the oceans were created,
before the springs bubbled forth their waters.
Before the mountains were formed,
before the hills, I was born—
before he had made the earth and fields
and the first handfuls of soil.
I was there when he established the heavens,
when he drew the horizon on the oceans.
I was there when he set the clouds above,
when he established springs deep in the earth.
I was there when he set the limits of the seas,
so they would not spread beyond their boundaries.
And when he marked off the earth’s foundations,
I was the architect at his side.
I was his constant delight,
rejoicing always in his presence.
And how happy I was with the world he created;
how I rejoiced with the human family!

Jesus knows why God created the World and how we are to live life to the fullest how God intended.
Thats good information. You should praise Him.
He is Wisdom. Everything He does and will do is Wise
He is Truth. Everything He does is right and best.
We praise kids for graduating from school because they gained knowledge and completed something
We can praise Jesus for knowing all things and finishing the work of the Cross.
All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.
For as the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, even so the Son gives life to whom He will.

Before Jesus is our Savior we are spiritually dead in our trespasses and Sin.
A perfect God can not and will not be in fellowship with sinful, vile, selfish, people.
But when you repent of you wrong deeds against God and ask Jesus into your heart then you go from being dead spiritually to being alive!
And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins,

even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),
Do you realize that God raised people from the dead in the Old Testament?
Back in
1 Kings 17:7-
And it happened after a while that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.
Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying, “Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. See, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.” So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, indeed a widow was there gathering sticks. And he called to her and said, “Please bring me a little water in a cup, that I may drink.” And as she was going to get it, he called to her and said, “Please bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.”
So she said, “As the Lord your God lives, I do not have bread, only a handful of flour in a bin, and a little oil in a jar; and see, I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die.”
And Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go and do as you have said, but make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to me; and afterward make some for yourself and your son. For thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day the Lord sends rain on the earth.’ ”
So she went away and did according to the word of Elijah; and she and he and her household ate for many days. The bin of flour was not used up, nor did the jar of oil run dry, according to the word of the Lord which He spoke by Elijah.
Now it happened after these things that the son of the woman who owned the house became sick. And his sickness was so serious that there was no breath left in him. So she said to Elijah, “What have I to do with you, O man of God? Have you come to me to bring my sin to remembrance, and to kill my son?”
And he said to her, “Give me your son.” So he took him out of her arms and carried him to the upper room where he was staying, and laid him on his own bed. Then he cried out to the Lord and said, “O Lord my God, have You also brought tragedy on the widow with whom I lodge, by killing her son?” And he stretched himself out on the child three times, and cried out to the Lord and said, “O Lord my God, I pray, let this child’s soul come back to him.” Then the Lord heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came back to him, and he revived.
And Elijah took the child and brought him down from the upper room into the house, and gave him to his mother. And Elijah said, “See, your son lives!”
Then the woman said to Elijah, “Now by this I know that you are a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in your mouth is the truth.”
God physically raised this boy from the dead. He has that power and so does the Son Jesus. This physical power is an illustration of the spiritual power that Jesus has to save a sinners lost soul.
We go from being dead to being a new creature...
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
We go from being selfish to living for God....
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
We are created to do Good works for God! Good works to people. Good works for God’s glory. Good works that Honor God and Jesus.

This is a pretty obvious reason that we should honor Jesus. He is the one who determines the fate of every human being. He is the Judge above all judges!
We honor judges alot at men. Think about the supreme court justice. We honor them in so many ways:

As of January 1, 2018, the chief justice of the Supreme Court earns a salary of $267,00 per year and the associate justices earn $255,300 per year.

A Supreme Court justice is appointed to the high court for a lifetime term. According to the Constitution, justices “shall hold their Offices during good Behaviour.” They cannot be removed from office unless they are impeached by the House of Representatives and removed after a trial in the Senate.

Serving on the Supreme Court is one of most prestigious roles an American judge or lawyer can hold. Their names are known throughout the world and they’re treated with a great deal of respect. The justices have the power to check the activities of the president and Congress, providing them with the ability to have a huge impact on American history

The Supreme Court has a three-month recess, which the justices receive as vacation time. Because of their lifetime appointments, the justices, unlike Washington's politicians, can make decisions without worrying how it will affect their tenure in office.

Financial disclosures for Supreme Court justices demonstrate that the additional notoriety the position provides creates the opportunity for side earnings. Justices earn side money by speaking at events for a fee or lecturing at universities during the recess. Many also earn advances and royalties from memoirs and other publications.
Now these justices make temporary judgments but Jesus will make eternal judgements. Judgements that will be in effect forever!

You should honor the Jesus because God wants you to and
and has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man.
Remember
The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand.
jesus has power over all things
Jesus is coming back to Judge the earth. He will judge with rigteousness and he will judge with truth.
What is truth you ask?
Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.
These reasons for honoring Jesus are created by God so that we will honor him. Let’s look at the last verse in our text:
that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.

You see here....all the verses before this lay out God’s plan for leaving us without excuse for honoring Jesus.
You honour Jesus by telling other’s about what he’s done in your life
You honour Jesus by being obedient to His command to be faithful in attendance
You honour Jesus by giving him the credit, not men or women, for the blessings in your life. Think about it....is it more important to praise the Chef or the waiter
Is it more important to praise the Builder or the realator for a new home?
Is it more important to praise the mother of a child or the creator of the mother?
We honor the Lord when we put him first in our life. The problem with many believers is that they are not true believers. They say they believe that Jesus is God and deserves all the honor but you don’t honor him with your lives. You choices consistently show what you truly honor and esteem:
Many esteem money and success more than Jesus in facc not only can you love money and success more than Jesus when you get your paycheck you view it as “yours” rather than a resource that belongs to Jesus. This is why you can get into a situation with your money in which you are actually robbing God!

When people do something noteworthy we honor them with time and money. That’s why you go to graduation parties. That’s why you go to birthday parties. That’s why you go to weddings. To honor people.
Many want
But when we consistently choose to put the people God has created above the God who created them we dishonor the Lord.
When we consistently choose to disobey the command to assemble we dishonor Jesus.
When we decide to consistently give to the Lord’s work and do so only after we pay all our bills, eat out, and buy shiney new things we want then we dishonor the Lord.
My prayer is that we as a church will honor the Lord. I will keep on preaching that we should be more faithful because I want you to get a “well done” at judgement. I want to be obedient in my preaching. I want you to be informed and aware that the decision you make for yourself and your family have eternal implications!
What a great opportunity we have in this short life to honour Jesus!
