Reminder: Memorial Day

Intro: I want some “Get Back”

I want some “Get Back”

Who hasn’t want to get back
How do we synthesize “vengance is mine says the Lord”
There’s a time for us to strike…clap back. But there’s a time to sit in/take the shade.
find a proverb that shows how our patience
I want to contend that there are some lessons we can learn from David as he ran from King Saul event hough he was still anointed for the throne.

Background

He’s declared enemy of the state when he the anointing departs from him. You’ve got to be able to know that the anointing on your enemy is different than the anointing on the office. He was still king!
you may not like Trump but he’s still been approved for office. To go against any governmental office is to go against God
app: You don’t have to like who God picks but you have to acknowledge that He permitted them be picked!
Acts 23:5 NKJV
Then Paul said, “I did not know, brethren, that he was the high priest; for it is written, ‘You shall not speak evil of a ruler of your people.’ ”
Exodus 22:28 NKJV
“You shall not revile God, nor curse a ruler of your people.
God Rewards Right!!!
while on the run from Saul, he can’t sit still and ends up defending others that would normally be sitting ducks. He’s supposed to be defending them from enemies but instead he’s wiping out Israels enemies.
There are some times when you begin to think you need more than you really do to get the job done. God’s saying no. Gideon’s 300, 5000 fed with 2 fish 5 biscuits, Abraham saving Lot,
God can teach you how to stretch what you have.
Ill: Alecia being awarded. They’d oversold and didn’t up the catering count. Judge Penny “we’ll split chicken. We know how to stretch things out!”
Testimony: My daughter just graduated from a school and I’m a church planter. Don’t tell me He won’t stretch some things!!!
Allyiah said it best “age ain’t nothing but a number.” When you’re on purpose, your numbers

A few lessons that keeping your “Saul” alive will teach you...

The Power of the Anointing & the Anointed

Is anything sacred anymore? I remember the time you’d turn your radio down when you were passing a church. Now increased violence directed at churches.
The anointing and the anointed is less and less respected.
It’s clear he’s king over Israel. It’s also clear that he has an issue with David.
Psalm 105:15 NKJV
15 Saying, “Do not touch My anointed ones, And do My prophets no harm.”
1 Samuel 24:6 NKJV
6 And he said to his men, “The Lord forbid that I should do this thing to my master, the Lord’s anointed, to stretch out my hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the Lord.”
1 Samuel 24:4–7 NKJV
4 Then the men of David said to him, “This is the day of which the Lord said to you, ‘Behold, I will deliver your enemy into your hand, that you may do to him as it seems good to you.’ ” And David arose and secretly cut off a corner of Saul’s robe. 5 Now it happened afterward that David’s heart troubled him because he had cut Saul’s robe. 6 And he said to his men, “The Lord forbid that I should do this thing to my master, the Lord’s anointed, to stretch out my hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the Lord.” 7 So David restrained his servants with these words, and did not allow them to rise against Saul. And Saul got up from the cave and went on his way.
1 Samuel 24:3–7 NKJV
3 So he came to the sheepfolds by the road, where there was a cave; and Saul went in to attend to his needs. (David and his men were staying in the recesses of the cave.) 4 Then the men of David said to him, “This is the day of which the Lord said to you, ‘Behold, I will deliver your enemy into your hand, that you may do to him as it seems good to you.’ ” And David arose and secretly cut off a corner of Saul’s robe.
1 sam 24:3-

You set the tenor and tone of how people respect or disrespect the anointing.
Reminder, don’t expect respect and you’ve never given.
Revelation: David was being given this opportunity to sow respect so that when he became king, he’d reap respect.

Timing is Everything

Pain Never Trumps Principle

He was his quintessential nemesis
He jealous of the song the women are singing
a spirit of rage and hate causes him to throw a spear
he offers his daughter in marriage
I give David mad props for his self control
If you are a person that can’t control yourself in some area, ask for more fruit
Galatians 5:22–23 NKJV
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
no law - it transcends OT law
In my almost 30 years of pastoral ministry, I would say that the presence or absence of self-control is one of the most determinative factors in whether you will do well or have serious problems in your Christian life. It affects how you manage your time; your money; your ability to overcome temptation; your development of godly character qualities; controlling your temper and your tongue; regulating your health (through proper diet, exercise, and rest); and, most importantly, whether or not you spend consistent time in the Word and prayer. - Pastor Steve Cole
Just casue somebody hurt you doesn’t mean God’s giving you permission to hurt them back

1 Samuel 24:3–7 NKJV
So he came to the sheepfolds by the road, where there was a cave; and Saul went in to attend to his needs. (David and his men were staying in the recesses of the cave.) Then the men of David said to him, “This is the day of which the Lord said to you, ‘Behold, I will deliver your enemy into your hand, that you may do to him as it seems good to you.’ ” And David arose and secretly cut off a corner of Saul’s robe. Now it happened afterward that David’s heart troubled him because he had cut Saul’s robe. And he said to his men, “The Lord forbid that I should do this thing to my master, the Lord’s anointed, to stretch out my hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the Lord.” So David restrained his servants with these words, and did not allow them to rise against Saul. And Saul got up from the cave and went on his way.

Delay Removes Deception

Some folk think you’re only good cause you’re on the throne
The same way people see how you fall, you ought to be determined to let them see how you fight!!!
Deception: trickery, chicanery, fraud
Saul, looked like he w as in charge and because he couldn’t show that the anointing was no longer with him and he still had on kingly robes, it looked to the masses that he was in charge
The longer saul pursued David, the more David’s folk knew that David was innocent
“This is the real deal!”
1 Samuel 26:21 NKJV
21 Then Saul said, “I have sinned. Return, my son David. For I will harm you no more, because my life was precious in your eyes this day. Indeed I have played the fool and erred exceedingly.”
1 Samuel 26:25 NKJV
25 Then Saul said to David, “May you be blessed, my son David! You shall both do great things and also still prevail.” So David went on his way, and Saul returned to his place.

Enemies Have Expiration Dates

even Saul knew his end was coming
Psalm 3:7 NKJV
7 Arise, O Lord; Save me, O my God! For You have struck all my enemies on the cheekbone; You have broken the teeth of the ungodly.
Psalm 6:10 NKJV
10 Let all my enemies be ashamed and greatly troubled; Let them turn back and be ashamed suddenly.
Psalm 18:37 NKJV
37 I have pursued my enemies and overtaken them; Neither did I turn back again till they were destroyed.
Psalm 23:5 NKJV
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.
ps 23.
1 Samuel 24:13–15 NKJV
13 As the proverb of the ancients says, ‘Wickedness proceeds from the wicked.’ But my hand shall not be against you. 14 After whom has the king of Israel come out? Whom do you pursue? A dead dog? A flea? 15 Therefore let the Lord be judge, and judge between you and me, and see and plead my case, and deliver me out of your hand.”
1 sm 24:13-15
1 Samuel 24:15 NKJV
Therefore let the Lord be judge, and judge between you and me, and see and plead my case, and deliver me out of your hand.”
1 Samuel 24:17 NKJV
Then he said to David: “You are more righteous than I; for you have rewarded me with good, whereas I have rewarded you with evil.

The Torture of Knowing

God
Some things are related directly to your immediate enemy.
God Rewards Right!!!
