Seeing our world through the lens of scripture or seeing scripture through the lens of our world.
Places have stories. There is significance to the history of any place.
Ground Zero, Normandy, Boston Harbor
When we see that something happened in a particular place in scripture, we look it up. The reason we needed in last week’s sermon was so that it had the back story for .
Bashan - King Og, attacking Israel on the way in to the promised land. Became part of the inheritance.
Shechem - Joshua gathered the tribes at Shechem, which was significant from the days of the Judges.
Spain -
Cross References let scripture become a commentary on scripture - the bibles we presented graduates...
Other verses that may say something similar, related or relevant.

Bible study and marriage - do you want to be happy or do you want to be right?
We dont ask the bible to compromise what it says to make us happy. We dont compromise our effort to understand it.
Study is work. We search for understanding of what the bible says and means. Personal application is important, but applying without knowing what it means is somewhere between useless and dangerous.
There is bible reading and bible research. Bible study is research.
To find the meaning of the text. Remember when I first came? I started every sermon with “This is the point of this scripture”. We dont use it to defend our view.
Which brings us back to seeing our world through the lens of scripture or scripture through the lens of our world.
