How many of you have chores at home?
Do you get paid for them?
I did not...
I was simply told to do them… so I did. Sometimes reluctantly...
Today we are going to talk about one of the things that Jesus commands us to do...

That is what baptism looks like.
We talk about it a lot
But where does it come from?
Why is it important??

Jesus Identified with His people in Baptism

Matthew 3:13–17 NIV
Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented. As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

Jesus’ baptism foreshadowed His death and Resurrection

That is what baptism looks like.
Why did Jesus have to be baptized??
Why did Jesus have to be baptized??
Jesus took his place alongside of those who do need to repent. He radically identified with His sinful people.
In essence, He said, “I will take my place alongside sinners, I will identify with them even to the point of dying on the cross so that they might eventually be set free from their sins.”
I want you to see what baptism looks like… this is from Beach Retreat 2 years ago.

Baptism is a symbol of your commitment to Jesus

We are much better at keeping commitments when we make them in front of people who can hold us accountable.
