First, we need to consider a question or two of this text from its beginning……We note, that opening line…"You Will say in that day…"We hear "you" …and, if we want to be good Bible readers, ...we should consider that the narrator is speaking to someone? So who is it?Isaiah --> this is the tail end of chapters 6-12Isaiah started out (chap 6) --> w/ vision of GodRuined him.But grace saved & atoned in his repentanceThen over last couple of weeks…We looked at chap 7-11…Where the…The king. The people.Have shown there unfaithfulness.Their rebellion. And God has stated his plan to bring ruin on them. The phase "in that day" becomes a key indication of the judgment for their rebellion. It's used 8x
But, now, after what we saw in 9-11 last week,…after the judgment, and the coming of a KING who is a chosen ROOT OF JESSE.Isaiah has spoken from the LORD that, ……something like a new/greater EXODUS will come.
AND NOW the TERM "IN THAT DAY" is turned from a…Negative …to a…Positive.
…so let's think for a moment what the "in that day" could be.Isaiah's day --> exile releaseLess likely the main one.Jesus's 1st coming.Jesus's 2nd coming
And now ISAIAH states so certainly…That "in that day""you will say"Or probably more accurately…"you will SING"
And here is another important note about this first line…..The "YOU" in the HEBREW is SINGULAR.Suggesting he is talking to each individual.Whereas later on (vs 3 & 4) the "YOU" will switch to plural.
So, is that just a nerdy little point? Or is there something significant in this little grammar difference?
…I think there is that we will see as we look at this first point…
