In addition to his direct involvement in guiding his people, Yahweh also has human agents and divinely appointed means to assist his people. Godly parents (), prophets (; ) and other advisers () serve as God’s “tour guides” through life. The Word of God is itself closely linked to guidance for the believer, and it is described as “a lamp to my feet and a light for my path” (; cf. ). In a similar way the Holy Spirit guides the apostles (and by extension believers generally) “into all truth” ().
The prerequisites for guidance from a godly tour guide include
humility (), integrity (), discernment (1:5) and wisdom ().

Psalm 25:15 NKJV
My eyes are ever toward the Lord, For He shall pluck my feet out of the net.

In addition to his direct involvement in guiding his people, Yahweh also has human agents and divinely appointed means to assist his people. Godly parents (Prov 4:11), prophets (1 Sam 12:23; Lk 1:79) and other advisers (Prov 11:14) serve as God’s “tour guides” through life. The Word of God is itself closely linked to guidance for the believer, and it is described as “a lamp to my feet and a light for my path” (Ps 119:105; cf. Prov. 11:22). In a similar way the Holy Spirit guides the apostles (and by extension believers generally) “into all truth” (Jn 16:13). The prerequisites for guidance include humility (Ps 25:9), integrity (Prov 11:3), discernment (1:5) and wisdom (Prov 16:23).

The theme of guidance is also seen from a negative angle when God censures false prophets, phony leaders and pagan techniques of seeking guidance. For example, the leaders of wayward Israel are guilty of misguiding God’s people (; ), a theme echoed in the NT when Jesus calls the Pharisees “blind guides” (; )
Psalm 25:15 NKJV

Decisions have to be made

KJV 1900I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: That thou mayest love the Lord thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.

.Factors that should affect your decision-making

1. Desire to know God’s will

KJV 1900Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
KJV 1900Shew me thy ways, O Lord; teach me thy paths. Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: For thou art the God of my salvation; On thee do I wait all the day.
See also ; ; ;
See also ; Ignoring God’s will leads to destruction; ;
.All decision-making must be subject to the will of God

2. Confidence: God can reveal His will

KJV 1900 Good and upright is the Lord: Therefore will he teach sinners in the way. The meek will he guide in judgment: And the meek will he teach his way.

3. Belief in God’s overall plan for his people

KJV 1900And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
See also ; ;

4. God’s promise to guide believers in their decisions

KJV 1900And the Lord shall guide thee continually, And satisfy thy soul in drought, And make fat thy bones: And thou shalt be like a watered garden, And like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.
See also ; ; ; ;

5. Knowledge of scriptural principles

KJV 1900And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
See also ; ; ; ; ; ;

6. A willingness to trust God

KJV 1900By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called: Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.
