Have you ever had an EPIC fail moment? You thought something was going to go really well and then well it didn’t?
Many people are afraid of failure. Our culture has made failure almost a bad word. We would rather not try something than to try it and fail at it.
I know some of you would rather not try an honors class or AP class bc you are afraid it is too hard. Others of you are afraid to try out for a team because you are afraid you won’t make it. Some of you are afraid to talk to a visitor because you are afraid you will look stupid.
Let me tell you something that might hopefully be a game changer for some of you. “God calls us to be faithful not successful.” The measure of success is not how successful you are! The measure of success is how faithful you are! We definitely see this in this next part of Moses’ story. It starts in ch. 5.
v. 1 - Moses is doing exactly what God asks him to
v. 2 - Pharoah says no
v. 7-9 - Pharoah turns against the people - “heavier work” means burdensome
v. 13 - taskmasters turned against people - “taskmasters were urgent” means “pressed the people” getting all up in their grill.
v. 14 - Israelites were beaten
v. 15 - instead of Israelites crying out to God they are now crying out to Pharaoh! - people turn to Pharaoh as their savior instead of God. Things got tough and instead of being faithful they turn to anything and everything that they think might help them out of that situation.
The key then comes in 6:2 when God responds. He reminds Moses of who he is. He is saying don’t worry about your situation, don’t worry about what others are saying or doing. Don’t even worry that things are getting worse. You just have to trust me.
