If you want to be impacted by Jesus you need to get close to him

v. 4 They were not going to let any circumstance stop them from getting to Jesus. They must of believed that Jesus had the power and authority to heal
He is always going to have people following him, but just because others are close to him doesn’t me you are....

Only God can forgive your sins...

options

The logic here is that, since Jesus can do the visible miracle (heal the paralytic), this is evidence that he also has the power to do the invisible miracle (forgive sins)

Son of Man

Can be confusing sometimes......God/Man??
Last week we discussed how Jesus must be
Human
That in human nature he might on our behalf perfectly obey the whole law and suffer the punishment for human sin
God
That Because of his divine nature his obedience and suffering would be perfect and effective
The Son of Man comes from the OT
The Son of Man is given dominion
Daniel 7:13–14 ESV
“I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him. And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed.

Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners??

Jesus has come to call the unrighteous, sinners, to healing
Those who are well have no need for Jesus
Is there anyone out there well that doesn’t need Jesus?
If you are well it is by your own diagnosis
Pharisees had no need for Jesus because they felt like they were following the Law “good enough” to be righteous in God’s Justice
Some of you might think you are too sick to come to Jesus for Help. NEVER DOES HE SAY THAT HE marginalizes THE PEOPLE WHO CAN COME TO HIM
Sometimes we think we need to get better on our own and them come to Jesus
Sometimes we think we have time and we will do it later. My schedule is booked out for a while. I will do it when it is more convenient.
Here is what the writer Paul writes in Romans about our Spiritual Condition.
It is important to see our condition spiriutally from God’s perspective and not our own
If we use our own perspective....we look at the person around us and think we are doing ok because we are not as bad as them!!!!
WE see Good in our own eyes based on our own understanding> But we need to see Good through Gods analysis
Romans 3:9–30 ESV
What then? Are we Jews any better off? No, not at all. For we have already charged that all, both Jews and Greeks, are under sin, as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.” “Their throat is an open grave; they use their tongues to deceive.” “The venom of asps is under their lips.” “Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness.” “Their feet are swift to shed blood; in their paths are ruin and misery, and the way of peace they have not known.” “There is no fear of God before their eyes.” Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God. For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin. But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. Then what becomes of our boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? By a law of works? No, but by the law of faith. For we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law. Or is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also, since God is one—who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith.
