This is a great series to help bring someone to Christ. It does so by convicing them that the Bible has all authority. Once they believe that they will believe what it says.

Why should we give Jesus’ authority?

Why should we give Jesus’ authority?

1. Because God says so -

Matthew 17:5 ESV
5 He was still speaking when, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.”

2. Because Jesus says so -

Matthew 28:18 ESV
18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

3. Because the Apostles believed that He was the Son of God -

John 20:28 ESV
28 Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!”

4. Because prophecy predicted He would be

Betrayal by Judas

Bible Prophecy: says, "Even my close friend, whom I trusted, he who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me."
Fulfillment: says, "Then Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve, went to the chief priests to betray Jesus to them."
Bible Prophecy: says, "I told them, 'If you think it best, give me my pay; but if not, keep it.' So they paid me thirty pieces of silver."
Fulfillment: says, "Then one of the Twelve - the one called Judas Iscariot - went to the chief priests and asked, 'What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?' So they counted out for him thirty silver coins."

Silence before Slaughters

Bible Prophecy: says, "He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth."
Fulfillment: says, "But Jesus still made no reply, and Pilate was amazed."

Dividing His clothes after death

Bible Prophecy: says, "I can count all my bones; people stare and gloat over me. They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing."
Fulfillment: says, "When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes, dividing them into four shares, one for each of them, with the undergarment remaining. This garment was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom."

No bones broken

Bible Prophecy:

Psalm 34:20 ESV
20 He keeps all his bones; not one of them is broken.

Fulfillment:

John 19:33–36 ESV
33 But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. 34 But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once there came out blood and water. 35 He who saw it has borne witness—his testimony is true, and he knows that he is telling the truth—that you also may believe. 36 For these things took place that the Scripture might be fulfilled: “Not one of his bones will be broken.”
Fulfillment "But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs: But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced His Side, and forthwith came there out blood and water. And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe. For these things were done, that The Scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken."

Why should we not give man authority?

Why should we not give man authority?

Because we are warned not to –

2 Peter 2:3 ESV
3 And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.

Because we only have one teacher

Matthew 23:6–9 ESV
6 and they love the place of honor at feasts and the best seats in the synagogues 7 and greetings in the marketplaces and being called rabbi by others. 8 But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are all brothers. 9 And call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven.

Because even the Apostle Paul did not receive it -

Acts 17:10–11 ESV
10 The brothers immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived they went into the Jewish synagogue. 11 Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.

Because Angels could not have it,

Revelation 19:10–11 ESV
10 Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God.” For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. 11 Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war.
Revelation 19:10 ESV
10 Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God.” For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

Jesus has all authority — do you agree?
