Intro:
1 Now there arose a great outcry of the people and of their wives against their Jewish brothers. 2 For there were those who said, “With our sons and our daughters, we are many. So let us get grain, that we may eat and keep alive.” 3 There were also those who said, “We are mortgaging our fields, our vineyards, and our houses to get grain because of the famine.” 4 And there were those who said, “We have borrowed money for the king’s tax on our fields and our vineyards. 5 Now our flesh is as the flesh of our brothers, our children are as their children. Yet we are forcing our sons and our daughters to be slaves, and some of our daughters have already been enslaved, but it is not in our power to help it, for other men have our fields and our vineyards.”
6 I was very angry when I heard their outcry and these words. 7 I took counsel with myself, and I brought charges against the nobles and the officials. I said to them, “You are exacting interest, each from his brother.” And I held a great assembly against them 8 and said to them, “We, as far as we are able, have bought back our Jewish brothers who have been sold to the nations, but you even sell your brothers that they may be sold to us!” They were silent and could not find a word to say. 9 So I said, “The thing that you are doing is not good. Ought you not to walk in the fear of our God to prevent the taunts of the nations our enemies? 10 Moreover, I and my brothers and my servants are lending them money and grain. Let us abandon this exacting of interest. 11 Return to them this very day their fields, their vineyards, their olive orchards, and their houses, and the percentage of money, grain, wine, and oil that you have been exacting from them.” 12 Then they said, “We will restore these and require nothing from them. We will do as you say.” And I called the priests and made them swear to do as they had promised. 13 I also shook out the fold of my garment and said, “So may God shake out every man from his house and from his labor who does not keep this promise. So may he be shaken out and emptied.” And all the assembly said “Amen” and praised the Lord. And the people did as they had promised.
14 Moreover, from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year to the thirty-second year of Artaxerxes the king, twelve years, neither I nor my brothers ate the food allowance of the governor. 15 The former governors who were before me laid heavy burdens on the people and took from them for their daily ration forty shekels of silver. Even their servants lorded it over the people. But I did not do so, because of the fear of God. 16 I also persevered in the work on this wall, and we acquired no land, and all my servants were gathered there for the work. 17 Moreover, there were at my table 150 men, Jews and officials, besides those who came to us from the nations that were around us. 18 Now what was prepared at my expense for each day was one ox and six choice sheep and birds, and every ten days all kinds of wine in abundance. Yet for all this I did not demand the food allowance of the governor, because the service was too heavy on this people. 19 Remember for my good, O my God, all that I have done for this people.

In the passage that we read, we see two contrasting way of life.
Life that breeds Selfishness
Life that overflows with generosity
Selfishness creates hardships, and problems… and sickness in the community...
Generosity brings healing… in the personal level and in the community...
Generosity brings healing… in the personal level and in the community...

Since we are in this topic. I also want to talk about our way of giving in the Church...
Normally, since last year… we don’t have particular part of the program when we collect offerings… if we have some amount we put them in the boxes...
FIRST, as a pastor, I want to commend and praise God for the partnership you have shown… to all who are giving their tithes and offerings… I praise God because God used you for the expansion of God’s work here in Lighthouse Christian Assembly.
Pera pera?
I believe, giving is not actually a money matter, but a matter of the heart...
This is not a money matter, this is a matter of the heart
Here in Lighthouse Christian Assembly, I want to explain, hindi po dahil may issue or something… I just want to be transparent and for us to know...
When we give, it doesn’t go directly to us… to me… or to the pastors...
Meron po kaming mga allowances or love gift… pero hindi po ako or the pastors ang may decision ng mga yun...
We have a Church Board, composed primarily of 10 people… that we vote for them every three years… and they are the ones who decide about money matters...
For the past years and months,
Various events and programs
maintenance ng church / L300…
we don’t intentionally fund raise for our outreaches, but we continued to improve them as our funds became able…
Now we are looking forward to continue answering the call of God… Shine in the City, province and beyond...
Plant churches in San Andres,Llanera, and in Rizal… and in Munoz...
We are looking forward to have our building project…
We have our Tanglaw sa Edukasyon… thanks for those who are continuing to help in this program...
GIVING IS AN ACT OF WORSHIP
In , Paul talked about the gifts that the Macedonian church as “a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God.”
So later before our services ends, we have our boxes in front so we can worship God together through giving… next week, we will put it back again at the back… but have this in mind…
Giving is one of the best ways to worship God… giving our time, energy and resources to him…

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
SO WHAT WILL YOU CHOOSE, ARE YOU GOING TO BE GENEROUS OR SELFISH?
I think is nothing in between in these two… Generosity and Selfishness...
Is there something in between?
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
------------
First, Let’s see selfishness
destroys people’s lives
Back to Nehemiah
The people are
Hungry
Baon sa utang
Exploited as slaves
hinders our mission for God
It is an internal strife at the time of building the walls
sends us away from God
In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”
The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
2 Cor 9:
16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.
9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.
Happiness begins where selfishness ends. - John Wooden
BUT to be generous is God’s desire for us...
BUT to be generous is God’s desire for us...
Nehemiah
defended the oppressed and helpless
he did not take advantage of his position
He committed his own’s resources for others and for the work of the Lord
Abraham
God’s promise to Abraham
Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.
Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
YOU WILL BE A BLESSING...
That extends to us… to be a blessing...
How are we going to be a blessing if we are selfish?
1 Tim 6:
IT IS CHALLENGING TO BE GENEROUS

Nagtitimpla ako ng gatas… Bear Brand...
Philo - reklamo - inuubos ko daw yung gatas nya.
“Huwag kang mag-alala, bibili tayo ulit”
“Dad, yung malaki ah, dalawa”
Sometimes, we are like that …
This is mine… this is mine...
We forgot that everything comes from Him...
6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
