Colossians 1:16–17 ESV
16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. 17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
A.W. Tozer said,
The gravest question before the Church is always God Himself, and the most portentous fact about any man is not what he at a given time may say or do, but what he in his deep heart conceives God to be like.
Colossians 1:16–17 ESV
16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. 17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
The truth about Jesus is the most important reality about you.

Chronology is the science of arranging events in their order of occurrence in time.

Creation accounts for chronology.

Chronology is the science of arranging events in their order of occurrence in time.
Genesis 1:1–5 ESV
1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. 3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.
Gen 1:1
The Hebrews reckoned time differently. - A new day began in the evening. When the Sun went down the Shofar would blow and this was the signal for a new day.
“There was evening and there was morning”
Genesis 1:5 ESV
5 God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.
Genesis 1:8 ESV
8 And God called the expanse Heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, the second day.
Genesis 1:13 ESV
13 And there was evening and there was morning, the third day.
Genesis 1:19 ESV
19 And there was evening and there was morning, the fourth day.
Genesis 1:23 ESV
23 And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day.
Genesis 1:31 ESV
31 And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.
6 times the text repeats this phrase “there was evening there was morning, the____ day.`
What does all of this teach us? It shows us that

Time was a critical component of creation.

When you are born you are marked by time.
When you die you are marked by time.

Before the creation of all things, time did not exist. But God did.

Psalm 90:1–2 ESV
1 Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations. 2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
In Abraham says that God’s name is the “Everlasting God”.

God is Lord over time because He created and ordained time

“El Olam” - The Everlasting God

Question

When did God create everything including time?

The Scriptures seem to indicate that the earth is approximately 6000 years old.

God is eternally Father, Son, and Spirit.

27
Genesis 1:26–27 ESV
26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
All three members of the trinity were vitally involved in creation. The Trinity is not a New Testament development of God. God was Father, Son, and Spirit from the foundation of the world. But even on page on of your bible you see evidence of a plurality within the one true God.

The scriptures teach that Christ is eternal and was the creator of all things.

john 1
John 1:1–3 ESV
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Before Christ stepped into time at Bethlehem, he created it.

Colossians 1:16–17 ESV
16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. 17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
