Summer At Connect 2018_pt2: Doing Good
Summer At Connect 2018_pt2: Doing Good
[LAST WEEK] - () Stress this… so that those who have trusted in God may be CAREFUL to devote themselves to doing what is good.
[HAVE YOU EVER] set out to start a new job, hobby, routine, and it was difficult or seemed overwhelming at first...
But, over time you got better at it.
You gained confidence in it.
You know the task frontwards and backwards, and you could even teach others to do it.
I remember a time [insert story]
Titus
Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good, in order to provide for urgent needs and not live unproductive lives.
Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good, in order to provide for urgent needs and not live unproductive lives.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Good works...
Good works...
who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.
who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.
[SETUP] - When we have experienced God’s goodness, we should desire to do good.
[THE WHY] -
1-On one end we know God is good.
2-On another end we know are called to good works
What we need to understand is that His goodness to the world
He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds.

[THE WHY] -
1-On one end we know that God is good.
2-On another end we know are called to good works
[POINT] - What we need to understand is that His goodness to the world is expressed through the Church - us!
[THE WHY] - Otherwise, we stop at God is good...
His blessing and goodness will seem to be just about us and for us.
[TRANSITION] - You’ve got to determine some things, so that you can be totally commited to doing good...
I was made for this!
I was made for this!
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
[PREACH] - We weren’t saved because of our good works, but we were saved to do good works!
“Prepared in advance” - You were designed for this! He already planned it. You were made for this!
[ASK] - Have you ever been so fulfilled in doing a task, that right in the middle of it you had this rush of emotion - I was made to do this!
If there is anything you do - for yourself - in life, discover what you were made for!
It’s Him in me!
It’s Him in me!
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
What is seen isn’t you - It’s Christ in you. And it brings glory to God!
None of us posess a light of our own. The light we shine is CHRIST!
[WRITE IT DOWN] - It’s Him in me!
Nothing else matters!
Nothing else matters!
[FINALLY] - Let’s go back to Titus 3...
Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good, in order to provide for urgent needs and not live unproductive lives.

It’s all unproductive if it’s not for His good.
[WRITE IT DOWN] - Nothing else matters!
[SO] - What is this all about?
Mature in Christ
Mature in Christ
So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers,
to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up
until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

“and become mature...” - , our mission!
[ASK] - Can you imagine that? The whole measure of the fullness of Christ!
That is why we are in this life together.
That is why we have our pastors and teachers - to teach us!
Where growing towards something!
Discover yourself!
Discover yourself!
From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.

Know your part!
[WRITE IT DOWN] - Discover yourself!
Devote yourself!
Devote yourself!
Acts 2:
Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,
praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

Go all in!
[NOTE] - And, know its not about just spending time with the “pastor”
As if the pastor is a hired “do-lifer”
It’s about each other! ALL OF US doing life.
[STORY] - Talking with Jackson about missing Sunday morning...
I hope to preach less in the future - to raise up others!
[WRITE IT DOWN] - Devote yourself!
[TRANSITION] - Finally, as we are growing into maturity in Christ, we must be devoted to probably the most important element of all of this...
Go beyond yourself!
Go beyond yourself!
[SETUP] - As the Church was being established by the Holy Spirit, God was directing Christians to do something they hadn’t before… Something they probably never thought of...
Some of them, however, men from Cyprus and Cyrene, went to Antioch and began to speak to Greeks also, telling them the good news about the Lord Jesus.
The Lord’s hand was with them, and a great number of people believed and turned to the Lord.

It’s not just for you - what if you took responsibility for someone else growing in Christ?
It’s not just for your family - what if you took responsibility for other families growing in Christ?
It’s not just about your own church! - what if you took responsibility as the body of Christ!

[SETUP] - Before the soldiers came to arrest Jesus, he prayed for you...
“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message,
that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.
I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one—
I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.

What are we “one” in?

What are we in “unity” over?
It’s the work we are here to do!
The Body, held together, as each part does it’s work!
DISCOVER your part, DEVOTE yourself to it, GO BEYOND yourself!
