Intro

Not by might, nor by but byi
This should be how we approach
Samason
truth is some of us don’t rise to what’s expected of us or what God wants for us. we’re underachievers. on the other hand, your faith isn’t producing what you want. you have as a faith target something that’s not in the will or plan of God
He was expecting
Ill: An interesting cartoon shows a fourth-grade boy standing toe-to-toe and nose-to-nose with his teacher. Behind them stares a blackboard covered with math problems the boy hasn’t finished.
With rare perception the boy says, “I’m not an underachiever, you’re an overexpecter!”
In the 1960s a teacher was given a roster showing the actual I.Q. test scores of the students of one class, and for another class a roster in which the I.Q. column had been (mistakenly) filled in with the students’ locker numbers. The teacher assumed that the locker numbers were the actual I.Q.s of the students when the rosters were posted at the beginning of the semester.
After a year it was discovered that in the first class the students with high actual I.Q. scores had performed better than those with low ones. But in the second class the students with higher locker numbers scored significantly higher than those with lower locker numbers!

expectation is the first cousin to faith
can be viewed as a destination prov 11:23
You cant expect if you inspect
you can inspect
Typically, people don’t do something with the expectation of failing.
Ex. buying a house, going to college, starting a business, getting married. Responsible people calculate or at least consider what it could net them…how it’s going to turn out.
God will put you in a place to make you use your faith and works but He’ll make you aggravated because of what you’re getting.
I came to work on your expectation…it’s too low!
I came to shake you out of mediocre…hum-drum living
I came to tell you to expect different, better, more, for it to work, success, a turnaround
contains a parable that I’ve preached before from the vantage point of spiritual warfare. After rethinking, I realized that I’d missed a major theme. Nobody wars expecting to lose.
ex. If I pick a fight with you, I expect to last 2 rounds. Get 3 licks in. pop you in the mouf at least once.
Reminder: Can I tell you that everything you started the year off expecting to build that is a threat to the enemy or that’s for your good is war zone!!
I stopped by to give you hope and tell the story of a little widow lady that expected some things to turn around…
Luke 18:1–8 NKJV
Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart, saying: “There was in a certain city a judge who did not fear God nor regard man. Now there was a widow in that city; and she came to him, saying, ‘Get justice for me from my adversary.’ And he would not for a while; but afterward he said within himself, ‘Though I do not fear God nor regard man, yet because this widow troubles me I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.’ ” Then the Lord said, “Hear what the unjust judge said. And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?”
Her faith was seen in the repeated request. It kept her know something was going to happen

Luke 18:1–8 NKJV
1 Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart, 2 saying: “There was in a certain city a judge who did not fear God nor regard man. 3 Now there was a widow in that city; and she came to him, saying, ‘Get justice for me from my adversary.’ 4 And he would not for a while; but afterward he said within himself, ‘Though I do not fear God nor regard man, 5 yet because this widow troubles me I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.’ ” 6 Then the Lord said, “Hear what the unjust judge said. 7 And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? 8 I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?”

Church folk don’t know when to shout!!
Ill: Had to get a yellow fever shot. A vaccine is the actual bacteria. It’s teaching the body how to rally around the invader. Cells have memory so if the bacteria enters in again the body will remember and rally around the bacteria to kill it off.
Pt: Prayer vaccination: if we start the process with something that’s already in us, we’ll get there more easily! Look what he’s vaccinating us against.
Luke 18:1 NKJV

What are you saying, whatever you’ve been building this year that has NOT been soaked in expectation, could stay like its.

to lose one’s motivation in continuing a desirable pattern of conduct or activity, lose enthusiasm, be discouraged

Pt: If you can keep discouragement away, your EXPECTATION will stay!!!

Works
Luke 18:3 NKJV
3 Now there was a widow in that city; and she came to him, saying, ‘Get justice for me from my adversary.’

Pt. 1: You are in EXPECTATION when there’s no INTIMIDATION

Luke 18:2–3 NKJV
2 saying: “There was in a certain city a judge who did not fear God nor regard man. 3 Now there was a widow in that city; and she came to him, saying, ‘Get justice for me from my adversary.’
lk 18.
Who he was didn’t matter to her!
App: I’ve come to discover, it’s a lot different to read/hear bout David and Goliath in church and then he shows up at work!
Despite of the Odds
Jesus is about to tell them how to stay in the game. men ought always pray
everybody knew don’t bet that Cleveland would win. Folk from Cleveland didn’t even bet.
Inspite of the Odds
Widows odds would’ve been that the Hawks would beat Golden State
Pt: These are the odds that this widow woman was up against.
Despite of Feeling Impotent “there was a widow” background on what it meant to be a widow
not society’s most important. so much so that Jesus condoned the care
Inspite of the who he served

Pt. 2: You are in EXPECTATION when there’s PARTICIPATION - make yourself do what what you’re expecting to be done.

vs. 3 “and she came to him.”
a lot of revelation is packed into these 5 words
Imperfect/Middle/Indicaticve
Imperfect-past tense. It takes reader back to show them what was happening

vs. 3 “and she came to him.”
IM
Middle-it acts on itself
She came “imperfect tense’ - to act on oneself. “The boy washed himself.” Translation:
She made herself keep coming.

Jesus is saying “This is how she got the judge to rule on her behalf: she kept on asking him because her expectation made her do what she wouldn’t have done if her expectation were not driving the faith she’d placed in the process.”
Q: What was she EXPECTING?
A: “Get justice for me from my adversary.”
‘Get justice for me from my adversary.
The New King James Version (Nashville: Thomas Nelson, 1982), .
Revelation: You’ll never know if what you’ve got is what you were supposed to have if you have said what you want!!!!!

Pt. 3: You are in EXPECTATION when TRANSFORMATION starts happening

Luke 18:4–5 NKJV
4 And he would not for a while; but afterward he said within himself, ‘Though I do not fear God nor regard man, 5 yet because this widow troubles me I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.’ ”
lk 18:
I don’t need any more than that!!! You don’t have to love my Jesus. Just do what He says. You don’t have to go to my church, but you’re under the arrest of those that are standing in faith with me. You don’t have like me, but you do have to do what I’m asking you to do.
Her EXPECTING starts CHANGING
If you’re not praying you won’t be expecting.
Indicative - continuation
Prayer is saying “I can’t do this, but I’m on the team of someone who can”
Ill: LeBron - GOAT or not, I know God who doesn’t contend with anyone else. He’s got a track record of doing some things that no one else could do!!!

God’s going to do can be a chant OR a prayer.
What are you saying pastor? If no faith is connected to your expectation...
How did she know he would
It was his job.
She knew he had a boss
She knew the boss
The old church song: God specializes And He will do what no other power can do!
Everytime I turn around He keeps on making a way
He may not come when you want Him but He’s always on time!!
