Luke 5:1–11 KJV 1900

And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret, And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets. And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon’s, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship. Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink. When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord. For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken: And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men. And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.

Introduction

I LOVE TO FISH.

But, when I fish, I like to do it MY way.

You know, part of the beauty of fishing is the fact that there’s nobody around to tell you how to live your life. It’s just you, a fishing pole, the fish, and a Dr. Pepper!

But, you know what???

What we’re doing in this church is fishing. On this earth, we are on a big fishing trip!

And although our ways and thoughts might tell us how we are supposed to do things, this is God’s fishing trip!

And God wants to tell us how we ought to fish today!

And He’s speaking to His church!

And I think it’s time we set down the can of Dr. Pepper today and hear what He’s got to say!

I’m talking about our path of revival! God wants to speak about His church and His revival and how it’s going to happen!

Body

The Deep

Big fish are only found in the deep!

Jesus spoke to Simon, “Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.” In one gospel, Jesus said, “Cast your nets on the other side!”

It didn’t make sense! So often with God, things don’t make sense!

So often with God, things don’t make sense!

It was a bad situation! And so often with God, He’s asking us to do things in tough situations.

This is often the place we are in when we need a miracle to happen. It doesn’t make sense and it’s a tough situation! But that’s what miracles are made of! Tough situations that don’t make sense!

So, it’s important to us today HOW Simon answers Jesus:

“Master, we toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless, AT THY WORD I will let down the net!”

I want to pick out that phrase he used: AT THY WORD.

Yes, you’ve toiled all night long! Yes, there may have been a drought in your life somewhere! But if you can respond in faith to God when He begins to move, and say, “I know it’s a stretch, God! I know you’re asking me to step out! I know I don’t understand and it seems impossible! NEVERTHELESS, AT THY WORD! NEVERTHELESS AT THY WORD!”

I’ll do what you say! I’ll step out it faith!

We’ve got a generation and a youth today that their number one line is, “Why???” Why? Why? Why?

You know what we need? We need some people who will say, “AT THY WORD! NEVERTHELESS, AT THY WORD! AT THY WORD! AT THY WORD!!!”

Step Out First

Notice what else Simon responds with: “Master, WE have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.”

I will!

Conclusion

"WE toiled all night long. But 'I' let down my net!"

"WE toiled all night long. But 'I' let down my net!" He didn't wait on the church to get behind him! He didn't wait for other people to get involved!

He didn't wait on the church to get behind him! He didn't wait for other people to get involved!

I wonder what would happen if somebody wouldn't wait on everybody else to step out in faith! I don't need a WE. I will!

Don't ever wait on your spouse to step out. Your marriage might be destroyed because YOU won't step out! I'm not waiting on WE! I'M going to let down MY net! If my wife doesn't live for God, I will!

But you know what happened? THEY let down their nets! Faith and obedience are magnetic! You get ahold of then both, it'll turn you into a Holy Ghost atom bomb! Maybe you've got the obedience and you need the faith!

There is a dimension of miracles and possibilities in this room waiting on one man or one woman to step out and step up!

So many fish, the net started breaking.

So many fish, the net started breaking. They beckoned to the other boat. The other boats that were docked could see them. The deep is not as far away as you think it is! The miracle is not as fast away as you think! They were close enough to say, "Come help!"

They beckoned to the other boat. Now, if they beckoned to the other boats, that means that these boats were docked and could see them.

They had only launched a little ways out into the deep!

The deep is not very far away!

Somebody step into the deep!

"Well I don't got a plan..." You don't need a plan! Just get a Word!

"Well we can't do that project! You know how much word and time and money it'll take???"

"Well we can't do that project! You know how much work and time and money it'll take???"

I've heard that too much! The deep IS NOT THAT FAR AWAY! It just takes a little PUSH!

EXAMPLES

THE DEEP IS NOT VERY FAR AWAY! JUST TAKE A STEP AND SEE WHAT GOD DOES! IT'LL BE BIGGER THAN YOU CAN CONTAIN!

This church was BUILT on steps and pushes into the DEEP!

It's not as far as you think it is to a full net! I've been hearing of prophecies of a full Sanctuary in this church! You just got to push a little bit!

Is there anyone who will push a little bit?

HEY - I hadn't figured this whole living for God thing out completely! I don't have Pentecost perfected! BUT I'M PUSHING OUT! We can push buttons on phones. Can we push faith???

Is anybody radical enough to believe we can see a prophecy fulfilled through us???

Think about right now what you can do to PUSH. And I want them to begin to sing. And let a faith spirit get in this room!Conclusion
