at 16 he truly seeks God

at 20 he begins purging the land of idols and things are detestable

at 28 he repairs the temple and leads a national revival, and celebrates passover

killed in battle at age 39

2 Kings 23:24–25 NIV

Furthermore, Josiah got rid of the mediums and spiritists, the household gods, the idols and all the other detestable things seen in Judah and Jerusalem. This he did to fulfill the requirements of the law written in the book that Hilkiah the priest had discovered in the temple of the Lord. Neither before nor after Josiah was there a king like him who turned to the Lord as he did—with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his strength, in accordance with all the Law of Moses.

Judges 21:24–25 NIV

At that time the Israelites left that place and went home to their tribes and clans, each to his own inheritance. In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as they saw fit.

The past of your family doesn’t define you or your future. You can be a cycle breaker.

Humble yourself before the Lord or be humbled.

2 Chronicles 34:26–28 NIV

Tell the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the Lord, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says concerning the words you heard: Because your heart was responsive and you humbled yourself before God when you heard what he spoke against this place and its people, and because you humbled yourself before me and tore your robes and wept in my presence, I have heard you, declares the Lord. Now I will gather you to your ancestors, and you will be buried in peace. Your eyes will not see all the disaster I am going to bring on this place and on those who live here.’ ” So they took her answer back to the king.

Repentance leads to redemption.

Ephesians 1:7 NIV

Repentance takes work.

1 Timothy 6:11–16 NIV
