Sanctified imaginations - to see with the eyes of faith
4742 מַחֲשָׁבָה (mǎ·ḥǎšā·ḇā(h)): n.fem.; ≡ Str 4284; TWOT 767d—1. LN 30.15 thought, musing, i.e., the content of reasoning and thinking (Ge 6:5; Isa 55:8, 9); 2. LN 30.56–30.74 plan, plot, i.e., a scheme as a rational thought (Est 8:3); 3. LN 42.29–42.40 create a design, i.e., think and plan to create something (Ex 31:4); 4. LN 30.56–30.74 purpose, i.e., a plan implying a certain desire (Ps 33:10)
The word epóptēs denotes one who had been initiated into the innermost secrets of his faith and who enjoyed the highest religious privileges; but now in contradiction to the secrecy of all pagan “mysteries” (Eleusinian, etc) the apostles would share with all the faithful every spiritual vision which they enjoyed (“we made known unto you”).
