Intro
We are continuing our series centered around Jesus’ words in in which he concludes what we call the Sermon on the mount with the words that anyone who hears these words of mine and does them will be likened to a wise man who built his house on the rock.
It has been my custom throughout this series to spend a few minutes during the introductory remarks to review where we have come from and what we have built so far during the construction of a Christian home.
We’ve established that the only suitable location for the Christian home is within the boundaries of the kingdom of God
We have concluded that God’s word should serve as the blueprint of our spiritual homes and that it outlines the covenant of marriage as the framework within which a family should exist.
We’ve poured the foundation using Christ as the cornerstone which is made up of
an Understanding that everyone in the house belongs to God
Growing into maturity in the church of Christ
and focusing on that future of eternal life
We erected the walls last week and labeled them the walls of
Appreciation and respect

I hope that we can all agree that if our homes where indeed built with these characteristics that we would have a very sturdy structure at this point.
Not only would it be sturdy, it would be pleasing to the eyes, the progress would be exciting, but we would understand that construction is not yet completed.
We wouldn’t dream of coming this far in the construction process and stopping here.
No one would want to move into a structure, no matter how beautiful and strong it appeared from the outside if it didn’t have a roof!
Roofs are important for what I hope are obvious reasons, but I’ll state them anyway.
They protect us from the weather!
Be it rain, hail, snow, wind, or sun, they shelter us from the elements, and without the roof, everything in the house, and even the structure itself becomes compromised and susceptible to ruin.

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." –
"Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful."
"Pray continually" -"I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone …" -

Application: Families
Pray with your family
The walls of communication, grace, appreciation/respect, and service should drive us to praying with one another.
if we have built a home that is a safe place for everyone to communicate their fears, their failures, their dreams, and desires for service to God, there is no end of things to petition God for.
When we cover our homes with constant and humble prayer to God we demonstrate our obedience to His commandment to pray, and we declare Him as the true head over our house.
Rejoice in thankfulness for blessings.
Petition for safety and sustenance.
Pray for your family
In your personal prayers relay your families worries, anxieties, problems,
Praise for the family you have
Close - Who can pray?
What about Cornelius in
I believe that scripture shows clearly that God hears the prayers of every man, woman, and child
HOWEVER, He answers them accordingly, and this is what we should teach.
You can not expect any response from petitioning God until you are in a covenant, saved, relationship with Him.
