Notes:
Discipleship is simply following Jesus.
In some sense, you figure it out as you go: The disciples had no extra knowledge, no instruction. Jesus simply calls them, and they simply follow. No conditions, no anything. (Blank Check of their lives). Disciples by definition don’t have all the answers. They’re learning. They’re growing. (Freshman in college who “solves” deep philosophical questions about time.) Have a lil’ humility.
What was it? What was it about Jesus that compelled them to quit their jobs, leave their families, and travel around with a teacher? Had they heard him preach? Had they heard rumors? (Good News of the Kingdom/Healing of disease??)
Disciples are trying to spread the news of the kingdom. Disciples learn what it means to live in the kingdom. They imitate Jesus.
When it comes down to it, Discipleship means looking at Jesus and doing what he does.
Just because discipleship is simple doesn’t mean that it’s easy. () Bonhoeffer. Following Jesus means following Jesus to the cross.
