9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

The weight of the command is in the authority of the commander.
Because God has Commanded
—> We need to pay attenttion
—> We can assume that the ability will be provided
Be Strong
- Life is supposed to be hard
—> Being a man is supposed to be difficult, this is why you are built stronger
- Being a man is supposed to be difficult, this is why you are built stronger
- Being a man of God is not something that happens in the realm of the possible, because God has not called you to the realm the mere possible
Courage
God delights in those who will presume on His promise.
David was given a promise, so he fought the bear, and the lion, and the giant, because dead men can’t be king (granted men with one arm can be king)
Stop caring what others think and only what do they think about my God

20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God. 21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

Your God is with you

4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

I will fear no evil;

For You are with me;

Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

There is only one worthy of your fear.

27 “Whatever I tell you in the dark, speak in the light; and what you hear in the ear, preach on the housetops. 28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. 30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.

They can only kill the body.
The New King James Version. (1982). (Mt 10:27–31). Nashville: Thomas Nelson.
live in the light of eternity’s view
Courage is needed for the hour in which we live

9 “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. 10 And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. 11 Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. 12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.

I do not be in any teaching about the end times that comes be this passage
A crucified Lord demands crucified disciples.
are you able to drink the cup that Jesus drank
will you take up your cross and follow
[Transition: this is how Joshua lived his life, this is how he lead others and at the end of his life this is the charge he leaves with those responsible with taking up his legacy]

15 And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

This day...
today is the day of salvation
no other day matter
we live right now, we do right now, what will you do right here, right now
Joshua knows what he is doing and what he is going to keep on doing

15 And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

As for me
the Gospel starts with you

2 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins,

Life begets life, you must become a live
We change the world by who we are, yes in Christ, and through Christ, and for Christ
but the “in Christ” does not make it less real

5 Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified. 6 But I trust that you will know that we are not disqualified.

How do we examine ourselves?

16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.

The same way we judge others

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

When a man has an evil spirit, he does evil things
When a man has an unclean spirit, he does unclean things
When a man is filled with the Holy Spirit he will live holy!
When judging if a minister is a wolf Jesus points us towards their fruit
We can sum up the fruits of the Spirit are character
We should note that we are not told to judge minister’s by signs, wonders, or some supernatural phenomena

9 The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, 10 and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie

the antichrist will come with wonders to deceive those who do not embrace truth
the Bible matters folks

21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

“you who practice lawlessness” those who live as though no law was given. This is why we study to show ourselves approved

23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

True worshipers are not looking to use God, their desire to be used by Him

15 And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

My house
your ministry starts with those around you
your wife, your kids, your friends, your neighbors, your coworkers
Those that are faithful with little will be given much
Your first ministry is your family, and the primary responsibility of training your kids belongs to the father of the home. Their are those who may try to challenge me on that, but do not do so unless you have scripture

6 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: 3 “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.”

4 And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.

4 And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.

if you don’t
is a command to wives
the rest of Chapter 5 is a command to husbands
is a command for kids
is a command for fathers
if you your gospel isn’t good enough for your home it has no business going anywhere else
if you can’t go next door, God isn’t going to send you anywhere else

15 And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

We will
This is a do or die promise
This is a promise that marches around Jericho

13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand

14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—19 and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

truth, don’t come to God playing games, if you are going to call Him “Lord, Lord” He better be Lord.
that means He is in charge
The New King James Version. (1982). (Eph 6:13–20). Nashville: Thomas Nelso
righteousness, walk in repentance, put on Christ’s righteousness
preparation of the gospel, learn the gospel: you need a message and you need to be able to communicate it
shield of faith, to quench the fiery darts (the lies)
the helmet of salvation, identity
sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, this is our only offensive weapon… it is the only one we need

15 And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

Serve the Lord
we need to make sure we don’t get this turned around
the clay is made for the potter not the other way around
