WHAT MOTIVATED YOU?

FACT 1: There are NOT motivated and unmotivated people

FACT 2: Everyone is motivated by something

FACT 3: The best leaders discover how to inspire people to action

HOW TO KEEP YOUR TEAM MOTIVATED

1) Avoid Threats

PROBLEM: Wrong questions, passive-aggressive, unrealistic expectations, etc.

SOLUTION: Fear produces short term results, but trust produces long term investment

2) Avoid Problems

PROBLEM: Spending too much time on below-average leaders becoming average

SOLUTION: Spend time on above-average leaders becoming great

3) Recruit Passion

SOLUTION: The single most important way to keep your team motivated is to recruit self-motivated people

SOLUTION: The best people do not need to be motivated

4) Cast Vision

PROBLEM: Motivated people tend to say yes to too many things

SOLUTION: Focus on the vision, mission, and strategy

5) Create Challenges

PROBLEM: Motivated people can get bored easily

SOLUTION: Take Another Risk

APPLICATION

GOAL 1: Great leaders spend the most time getting the right people on the bus and the wrong people off the bus

GOAL 2: Great leaders spend twice as much time appreciating people than correcting people

GOAL 3: Model motivation by remembering who you are
