Place Preached - (Mississauga International Baptist Church)
Date Preached - (07/12/98)
Introduction: Tell dramatized story of the first Passover in Egypt.
The Plagues were judgements against Egyptian gods.
I. The Passover Was To Become A Yearly Observance. Exodus 13
The 14th of Nisan (beginning of year)
Associated with it was the feast of unleavened bread.
(Nisan 15-21st)
To be perpetually observed year after year.
This is the practice throughout the Old Testament.
Jesus, Himself, kept the Passover.
(Mat 26:17 KJV) Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover?
(Mat 26:18 KJV) And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples.
(Mat 26:19 KJV) And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover.
(Luke 22:15 KJV) And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer:
It all pointed to something greater!
Not broken until NT Hebrews? (ref) READ HEBREWS 8
Jesus was the Passover.
(1 Cor 5:7 KJV) Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:
Moses looked ahead by faith!!
(Heb 11:28 KJV) Through faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them.
Vs.6 - The whole congregation shall kill “IT” in the evening.
Now there were undoubtedly 1000’s of lambs slain, but they pointed to one LAMB who would be slain in the evening of human history.
CHRIST AS OUR PASSOVER
II. He Was Without Blemish
(Exodus 12:5 KJV) Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:
The Lamb was to be a male of one year old.
The Lamb was selected after 4 days of careful examination.

Vs. 4 - Note the household could be too small for the Lamb, but the Lamb was never too small for the household. This speaks of the sufficiency of Christ as our passover.
Vs. 5 - “Your Lamb” - personal application!!!! (Only occurrence in Bible)
III. His Blood Was To Be Shed
(Exo 12:7 KJV) And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it.

(Heb 9:22 KJV) And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
B. Flesh to be eaten w/ loins girded, shoes on and staff in hand.
There must be an understanding that this world is not the believers home. Keep a loose grip on things of this world.
Be ready for God to move you - in service - take you home.
C. The flesh was sustenance for the journey.

(Exo 12:12 KJV) For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.
A. Choose Passover or bear your own iniquity.
(Num 9:13 KJV) But the man that is clean, and is not in a journey, and forbeareth to keep the passover, even the same soul shall be cut off from among his people: because he brought not the offering of the LORD in his appointed season, that man shall bear his sin.
B. Jesus Took the Curse of our sin upon Him.
(Gal 3:13 KJV) Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
C. He bore God’s wrath against sin.
(Eph 5:6 KJV) Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
(Rom 1:18 KJV) For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
(John 3:36 KJV) He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
V. His sacrifice was the basis for mercy.
(Exo 12:13 KJV) And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.

(Rom 5:1 KJV) Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
C. We are clothed in Righteousness of the Lamb.
(Rev 7:9 KJV) After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;

(Rev 7:17 KJV) For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.
