Father’s Day

Intro - Welcome to father’s day here at Maranatha Baptist Fellowship

If you will remember mothers day, I seemed to struggle a bit for the simple fact I am not a mother and feel I did not have the authority to talk about mothers, but we did anyway’s

On mothers day we talked how mothers you are to be suitable helpers to you husbands in raising your children, and frankly some of the moms need to step back and allow and expect their husbands and fathers of their children to step up and be the leader they were made to be

So Fathers

I feel like I can speak on the subject, because I have one, just like I have a mom, but I am a father

I am the father of Emma and Lilyann

So I feel a bit more comfortable speaking with some authority on the matter of fathers day and speaking to the fathers

I feel like today we can be frank with each other and be honest with each other

Fathers

simple put I think we need to step it up

Genesis 3:6–7 NASB95

6 When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loin coverings.

Sin did not enter into the world because Eve ate the fruit, sin entered the world when Adam ate the fruit

This points to the fact that Men are to be leaders of their house holds

Eve was not designed nor created to lead the family, God designed and created Adam to lead the family

We know how the blame game goes a few verses later, God goes to them and Adam blames Eve, Eve blames the serpent

Adam blames Eve, I would venture to say that most of his men sometimes rather than stand up and be the leader we are designed and intended to be we blame others

But we understand that men are to be leaders and if this point is still not clear

Ephesians 5:23 NASB95

23 For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body.

as plain as plain can be, husbands you and I are to be the leaders of our house holds

Just like we talked during mothers day how mothers are to be suitable helpers

Well this verse tells us that men and husbands are to be leaders in their families

So dads lets conduct a self check much like we did with the moms on mothers day

We when talk about leaders

You understand that as men and husbands and fathers you and I are responsible for our families

We are to lead them in everything we do

So the first check we must conduct is are you leading your family, if you are not then who is

If you are not leading your family then why not, is it because someone else is already leading your family

Then at some point you will need to begin to lead your family, remember you were the only one designed and created to lead, your wives were not, and your children were defiantly not

I would say though that it would appear that alot of our problems in this world point to the men, it is not because it is all there fault, but by design they play a big role, I mean they are to lead their families

So fathers are you leading your families

and if you are not then you should be it is that simple

You may begin to ask yourself well what are to we be leading them in and I am glad you asked

Deuteronomy 6:4–9 NASB95

4 “Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord is one! 5 “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 “These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. 7 “You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. 8 “You shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontals on your forehead. 9 “You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Fathers we are to be teaching our children to love the Lord with their entire being

You may start to ask all these questions but simple put you are to teach these to your children, which means that you are to ask your children what they are learning during Sunday school, and children's church

also share with them what you are learning during church and in your own quite times

which then brings us to the all important question if men how can you lead if you are not following Jesus yourself

you and I cannot begin to teach our children and wives what we ourselves either do not know or do not follow

you and I as fathers cant begin to have a conversation with our children about loving Jesus if they don't see us loving Jesus

Mean this is how we lead our families, by running after God ourselves and they will follow

Like the moms, Fathers do your children or can your children catch you reading the word of God?

Fathers are we leading our families and children to trust in the Lord?

Proverbs 3:5 NASB95

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding.

I am thinking next year on mothers day we actually talk to the fathers and ask the fathers how the mothers are doing and on fathers day we talk to the mothers and ask them how they are doing

Fathers are you leading your families and children to trust the Lord

Our children will look to you when times get tough, and when you worry and start to question God wouldn't you know that your children pick up on that

So fathers when things in this world go sour, you need to dig into the word even more and move closer and closer to God and begin to exhibit some faith

Allow your kids to watch that and allow your kids to see that and then like in Deuteronomy you share that with them

You see when we begin to share with them we are doing what we are called to do

Matthew 28:19–20 NASB95

19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

This is the great commission, and I would also say the great command

you have heard me say it that you and I are to go and tell people about the good news of Jesus Christ

first fathers if you are here today and have not experienced the Good news of Jesus then we need to fix that and when we have the invitation then you need to come down front

But if you have then you and I as fathers need to be discipling our children and our wives

we need to be sharing with them what is going on in our walks with Jesus and leading them to grow in their own walk with Jesus by having a walk with Jesus ourselves

In a study I am doing Men are by nature providers, we go and we work and bring home money to provide for our families

Randi will tell you that when a mini crisis happens with my girls, I am a fixer, and sometimes my girls I am learning don't always need a fixer they simply need dad to listen rather then ask questions and get to the bottom of the problem

But non the less we are providers, dads when we disciple our children we are providing for them so much more than money could ever buy them, dads when we disciple our wives and the mothers we are cultivating suitable help mates to assist us in Leading our families

Men this is leading our families

Are you leading your families

are you leading your families to Love Jesus

are you leading your families to trust in Jesus

Are you leading your families to a closer walk with Jesus

I am telling your from expeirence there is no better feeling then praying with your child to accept Jesus

This is what happens when we are out front Loving Jesus, Trusting Jesus and walking with Jesus

This is leading our families

The invitation is simply this

If you are here today and don’t have a personal relationship with Jesus I would invite you to the front

someone will be down front to explain salvation to you, to share with you that Jesus came to this earth to pay your debt of sin so that you and I could spend eternity with Him in heaven

maybe you are here today and you need to become an official member of this local church

you may say well I have been coming and I serve and help, I would encourage you to become a part of the body

or maybe you simply need to spend sometime just you and God together at the altar

the altar is open
