“Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish. When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away. This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
This is the net being used by the disciples in the text.
One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, the people were crowding around him and listening to the word of God. He saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat.
Saying yes to Jesus cost them the time that it took to tend to all of their fishing equipment.
One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, the people were crowding around him and listening to the word of God. He saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat.
When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.”
Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.”
When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.
When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!” For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners.
Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.” So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.
Christ at this point is more of a friend than Lord of their lives. The have had some moments all together, but the disciples are not with Jesus full time yet.

Even when every circumstance doesn't make sense, God is control. When you everything says that something shouldn't work, but it does... God is control.

Even Peter Repents

Once on shore, Peter and the others didn't tend to the catch, clean the nets, or try to make dollar off of Christ's blessing. They dropped everything and followed him. Servanthood and obedience to Christ become more important than worldly approval or riches.

Following Jesus part time is often out obligation. Surrendering to Jesus "full time" is usually out of obedience.

Fishermen don't quit!

Believers must exercise their faith

The trammel is only used at night so that fish cannot see the net, and fish in the sea of Galilee were caught in the shallows at night. Not in the deep, during the day, with the trammel.

Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.”
Peter notes the Jesus is one with authority, but not the messiah. Peter (The Professional Fishermen) having foot in mouth disease, could mocking Jesus' (The Carpenter) request to go back out to fish.

Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.”
When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.
God is able to meet your needs, before you even request them. If Peter made a living being a fisherman, had caught nothing the night before, never asked Jesus to help him make a catch. But God... showed up and provided more than enough, because of Peter's response to obey Christ.
Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.”
Is Peter responding out of obligation because of a friendship? We know that Peter isn't following Jesus full time yet, and neither does he call him Lord until after Christ's miracle of the catch. Instead he calls him master as a slave calls his owner.
When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.
How does one know if their in the will of God? Be obedient. Be obedient today, and you'll be in his will today. Be obedient tomorrow, and you'll be in his will tomorrow. Obedience brings results!

While pulling in the nets, who knows what Peter is saying. Is his mocking Jesus, "Are you kidding me? I the professional fish all night, catch nothing, but now Jesus the carpenter of all people tells me what to do and we catch all this fish!"
When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!”
The change in comment of Peter to acknowledge Christ as Lord after referring to him as master is due to Peter understanding the miracle.
For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners.
Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.” So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.
They left the greatest catch they had ever seen to follow Jesus and become disciples... The recognition, the pay day, the books deals... They put it all aside... to follow Christ,
