Not my words but Gods.
Not my words but Gods.
Last week we saw how Gods Son Jesus being full of the Holy Spirit was of into the wilderness.
We saw how even thou he was the son of God he was not amune from the temptations of the Devil.
we saw he Jesus prepared for his temptations by fasting.
we also saw that it was at the end of 40 days when he was at his most vulnerable the devil came to tempt him.
we also saw that the devil come to tempt us not when we are at our strongest but when we could be at our weakest.
Temptation wouldnt be a temptation if we were very strong in that area.
The Devil ,satan or lucifer know our weakness and like a skud missile head strenght for them to cause the most damage.
when we are tempted by s,d,l, the only way to become strong in that area is to risist his tempting.
But how do we do this.
first let me tell you this that God dosent tempt any one of you. He might test as he did with Abraham
but you say but what is the difference
satan tempt to pull you down
but God will test to prove you.
the difference is how you feel at the end.
down cast or exalted.
When we are tempted just remember this verse.
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
1 cor 10:13
This verse would imply that God allows tempting.
The answer to this question or statement is yes he does ,
If satan can come and tempt eve in the garden if satan can come and temp the sone of God in the wildernes wht should he not come and tempt you
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
James 4:7
You say Pastor that seems easy to say but difficult if not very difficult to do.
but you are answering the second part of the verse and im answering the second part.
your looking at the hard part of the verse which is resist the devil.
your saying i find it hard to resist the devil because he come in all his many different disguises.
But im saying that in truth you havent learnt to submit yourself to God.
wow what a statement.
but im the communion coordinator but havent learned to submit
but im a deacon but havent learnt to submit
but im a born again christian but havent learnt to submit
but im the youth leader but havent learnt to submit
but im the Pastor but havent learnt to submit to God.
How can a spirit filled living sacrifice for God know weather you are submitting yourself to God
simply you life will show it.
Gone will be the me mine and my and in will be you yours and thine.
but how can we get to this wonderful state when all we want to do is the will of God.
we dont need no special diet of nuts and berries
we dont need to go on the next pilgrimage to laurds or jerusalem.
The answer is to look at the life of Christ and take him as our example.
first things first we need to be born of the spirit.
secondly we need to be filled with the the word of God
thirdly we need to be filled by the holy spiirit
forthly we need to be submissive to God.
you can try and miss some items out butyou wont have the effect that God wants for your life .
What do i mean there are many people in the mad house today that know more about the bible than i but they dont know the saviour.
you can tap into a counterfiet power you might be able to heal but its not from God.
but people are healed so isnt that good if the sourse isnt clean would you drink the water.
lets take the life of Jesus and see how he was able to defeat the enermy when he came to temp him.
each time that tempter came with a different temptation how did he respond.
simply with the word of God
the tempter said
And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
matt4:
Jesus responce
matt4:
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
which is
And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.
Dt
the tempter said
mat 4:
And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
here the tempter responds with scripture
They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
satan knows scripture please dont be fooled what you know and what he knows mayde miles apart.
the tempter comes a third time.
matt 4:
And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
Here we see the tempter setting himself up as a God and what was Christs responce
Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
matt 4:
Here christ was reffering to the first few of the 10 commandments.
ex 20:2-
I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
when ever the tempter came up against Jesus his responce was
it is written
To Be able to defeat the tempter in all his whilley ways we need to have the word of God deeply embeded within our hearts.
Is the word of God in our hearts enough to defeat the tempter.
let look.
gen2:
gen 2:
And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
Here was the word of God but this is what was recited to be the word of God
gen3:
But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
here we see a difference.
she had the word but was unable to defeat the tempter why
because she did have the power of the holy spirit to back it up.and she was showing that she was not submissive to God
and she added to the promise of God
and we dont do that
the word of God is enough
in this pre fall state you might feel that she would have had the spirit within here.
but to whom did God breath the breath of life into adam.
because of the way she was created out of man then she was to be ruled over and not a ruler.
Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
gen 3:
To day we have seen how the life of Christ was able to defeat the tempting of the tempter.
why
because not only was he the word in the begining not only was he bour of the spirit but he was infact filled with him too , he used the word of God to defeat the tempter. and finally that he was submisive to God in all he did
And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.
Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
jesus was will to do his father will even unto death.
finaly for us to defeat the tempter we need to be
born of the spirit
filled with the spirit
having the word of God in our lives
submitting ourselves to God.
