PREACHING THE GOSPEL
INTRO (C.I.) There are Four things we must do in relation to the gospel
1) WE MUST PREACH THE GOSPEL
a) We must preach the Gospel because preaching is God's plan
b) We must ... bec. people will not hear unless we preach ,
c) We ... bec. it (the gospel) is God's power to save men
i) As a car only has power if it has an engine - if it looks like a car but has no engine it is useless
2) WE MUST RECEIVE THE GOSPEL
a) Receive = hear AND obey
b) The people on the day of Pentecost received the Gospel
c) Lydia received the Gospel ,
d) Jesus told about those who receive the Gospel in
3) WE MUST STAND FIRM IN THE GOSPEL
a) Standing in the Gospel involves living in view of the death of Christ
i) If I am conscious of the death of Christ I will not take sin lightly
ii) If I am conscious of the death of Christ I will be motivated to return his love
b) Standing in the Gospel involves living in view of the resurrection of Jesus Christ
i) If I am conscious of the resurrection of Christ I will realize that all the dead will be raised
ii) If I am conscious of the resurrection of Christ I will realize that He will come again and judge
c) Therefore STANDING in the Gospel makes me live realizing what Jesus has done for me
4) WE MUST BE SAVED BY THE GOSPEL
a) EXAMPLES of things that can NOT save us
i) We are not saved by sincerity - Paul
(1) HE was not saved while persecuting CHRISTIANS
ii) We are not saved by works
iii) We are not saved by faith alone JMS 2:14,24
b) EXAMPLES OF THINGS that CAN save us
i) We are saved by grace
ii) We are saved through belief and confession
iii) We are saved through baptism
c) We can be saved through the GOSPEL -
i) Ex. of Cornelius
(1) , - he would be told WORDS BY WHICH he would be saved
(2) Peter spoke these words - = THE GOSPEL
