I have to admit when I first read these scriptures in preparation for today, i was a little intimidated.

I have to admit when I first read these scriptures in preparation for today, i was a little intimidated.

I don’t know if anyone else can relate with me on that. These verses have such powerful words written in them, and what seems as if the longest sentence ever i struggled at first to break it down. I prayed - Lord what do these, your words, mean? what are you trying to communicate? Relay your voice to me oh God that I may know you better.

With the Amen that followed I wish i could say that it flowed all t once and I knew what it all meant. To be honest, It took a lot of prayer and studying the scriptures to be able to confidently present it to you all today.

stand before you today, not with everything figured out, but knowing i have hearing from the lord.

lets pray

We are continuing our series of Eph. Today we will be completing chapter 1. Please Open your bibles to and read with me. This is a continuation of thought from what our Pastor spoke on last week.

19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might

His immeasurable greatness of power is not an abstract quality - its more than that.

Paul is telling us that It can be known TO US WHO BELIEVE through it being worked out IN us.

The power emphasized here is not the QUANTITY BUT….

His mighty power can be seen, and realized and even experienced, by its operation in us who believe. When we trust in the Lord and surrender to him; his power is worked out through us.

Ephesians: A Commentary Ephesians 1:15–23: Paul’s Prayer for the Ephesians

Paul reminds them both of the superiority and sufficiency of God’s power in Christ and of their need to make a clean break from their past spiritual attachments

John 14:12 ESV
12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.

12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. (at the right hand)

Paul is also reminding the epheisians and encourageing them to break away from their past spiritual attachements and showing them Gods superiority and sufficiency of Gods power in Christ. Basically he is saying you dont need the mysicizum and your others gods, because my god is sufficiant for you.

Whoever believes in me - theres that word again. In order to have the power we have been talking about is believe in Jesus. We will do greater things than Jesus because of the power that is bestowed upon us when we believe.

John 14:12 ESV
12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.
John 3:16 ESV
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

20 that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places,

Its that power that we just talked about that raised Christ from the dead. Its that same power that is now in us.

at the Right hand. This is more that just a physical place. so whats the significance here? “right hand man” :There are a couple of interesting things I’ve found about this.

first its Definition: A person given authority and honor; a most trusted advisor who is always close at hand. In the bible it is referenced quite a bit as someone who is a chief assistant - and indispensable helper.

while studying the history of this saying I found that it was adapted as an old military training presedure. most soldiers were(are) Right handed, so naturally they held their swords in their right hands. Which means their shield was in their left. Their left sides were protected. So soldiers were taught to help protect their fellow solider by protecting their unshielded side - their right side. So the saying came into being. Someones RIGHT HAND MAN is someone who protects you, guards you, fights for you. So Jesus is not only at the Right hand of God, but he is also at our right.

SEATED - judge -This signals Authority “ENTHRONED”. Jesus has been given the Right hand man authority as he has been enthroned in heaven. He is our helper and our fighter, he is our defender and guard!

21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.

12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. (at the right hand)

Whoever believes in me - theres that word again. In order to have the power we have been talking about is believe in Jesus. We will do greater things than Jesus because of the power that is bestowed upon us when we believe.

John 3:16 ESV
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

Above all authority and power Above EVERY name for all time. This includes us. He knew your name before he created you. He already planned for you in the very beginning. You are not a surprise to him. He is turned toward us who believe. for all ages. His power was not just for the Ephisians - its for today.

Psalm 139:13 ESV
For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.

22 And he put all things under his feet

1 Corinthians 15:27 ESV
For “God has put all things in subjection under his feet.” But when it says, “all things are put in subjection,” it is plain that he is excepted who put all things in subjection under him.
Hebrews 2:8 ESV
8 putting everything in subjection under his feet.” Now in putting everything in subjection to him, he left nothing outside his control. At present, we do not yet see everything in subjection to him.
Hebrews 2:8–9 ESV
8 putting everything in subjection under his feet.” Now in putting everything in subjection to him, he left nothing outside his control. At present, we do not yet see everything in subjection to him. 9 But we see him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.

He willingly was put to death for all, that they would know the love of the father.

If all things are under his feet then why do we walk around worried and anxious?

Philippians 4:6–7 ESV
do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:8 ESV
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
Phil 4:8
Phil

Theres that word -

GAURD: WOW

Last year as we were preparing to move the Lord Gave me a scripture. And tie and time again he reminding me of that Scripture in many different ways. This past year I believe it was back in November, I was asking the Lord whats my verse for this year? And this year I cannot tell you how many times this scripture has come up. It has been spoken over us, it has been shared by others here at this very pulpit, i was given a mug as a gift with that scripture on it.

I think the Lord is trying to tell me something…lol I share this because I want you to know the peace that the Lord has given to me through this verse. if the God who created the universe can keep the planets in orbit, and the sun in the sky, and If he can feed the birds in the air then why why why do we need to worry about the stuff in our lives?

He asks us here in Philipians to Not to be anxious, but then he goes on the tell us how to do that..... he says 1. but in everything by prayer and supplication 2.with thanksgiving 3. let your requests be made known to God. THEN....the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

So its only after we ask the Lord to be the king of our circumstances

Romans 8:28 ESV
28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
ROMANS 8:

He uses all things- The good the bad and the ugly work together for good for those who are called…ie those who believe. We dont have to worry. It doesnt mean bad things dont happen, believe me they do. we live in a broken, fallen world, but it means that as Jesus us our gaurd and he uses the bad things that happen to us to teach us and bring us closer to him. It takes a lot of faith to know that the terrible things that happen will somehow be made for our good, but here in Romans we see this promise.

and gave him as head over all things to the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.

Gave- Its a gift - all we have to do is receive it. the only condition all we have to do is believe.

Its a gift - all we have to do is receive it. the only condition all we have to do is believe.

James 1:17 ESV
17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.

head over all things given to the church - Christ is head of all things! and as such he has been given power and authority. With that being said - he then was given to the church as a gift. We are his body, we are lead by him. he guides us and shields us. we then follow in his direction. And as the head has the power so then does the body! When we make him head over our live and of our church we then reiceve that power to do the great things he promised would be done in

John 14:12 ESV
12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.

church is his body - as he is our head we are his body

mugs handed out- Just as we gave you a gift fathers- so the Lord also wants to give us all a gift.

He wants to over flow our “cup” with him and his presence and his power and his Love. All we have to do is believe and receive.
