Lecture 3 (Congress 2018)

Introduction:

Gifts Are Given ()

1 Corinthians 12:7 ESV
To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.
By God
We each have been given at least one gift
Spiritual gifts are not given to disciples based on how long they have been a member of the church, how many degrees they have behind their name, how much a disciple prays, or even how spiritually mature they are. They are given based on the grace of God, the unmerited, unearned, undeserved favor of God (see ). They are gifts.

Application: Discover your gifts and exercise in your gift. Help others to exercise in their gifts and glorify God.

Gifts Are Spiritual ()

1 Corinthians 12:7 ESV
To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.
Explain manifestation (φανέρωσις), exposed and produced by the spirit. Brought into plain view.
φανέρωσις
They are not hidden
Spiritual gifts are “manifestations of the Holy Spirt” and are beyond natural and normal abilities. They are supernatural functions. They are “not by might nor by power, but by my Spirt says the Lord Almighty” (). A spiritual gift is a special ability for service given to a member of the body of Christ, for use within the body. Author William McRae believes that within the gift is the ability, qualification, strength, and responsibility. Do you know you have at least one spiritual gift?

Gifts Are for The Common Good ()

1 Corinthians 12:7 ESV
To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.
They are for the productivity of the kingdom
They are for building others
They are to Glorify God
Illus: Dr. Charles Stanley believes when disciples refuse to discover, develop, and use their gifts, they hurt the body of Christ in at least four ways: they are robbing the body of Christ, they are forcing other members to carry their load, they are dead weight on the body, and they are out of touch with the Spirit of God.
Application: Are you guilty of any of these four things?
