Patience is a virtue,
Story of writing a sermon in a lawn chair...
Possess it if you can.
Found seldom in a woman,
Never in a man.
When you have a runner on 3rd and a runner on 1st with 2nd base open, you send the runner in an attempt to bait the defense into a throw, leaving home up for grabs. As you get older this doesn’t work so well, so coaches change things up a bit.

Story of College World Series...
In much the same way the enemy will try to bait you into turning your attention away from Home so that he can steal it! So the question is: How do you defend it?
1. Know your situation
I am alive with Christ
Ephesians 2:5 ESV
even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—
alive together with Christ Through union with Christ, believers receive new life that reverses the effects of death
alive together with Christ Through union with Christ, believers receive new life that reverses the effects of death (see note on v. 1; compare ; ). Those who believe in Christ participate in His death and resurrection. Consequently, believers share in Christ’s resurrected life—life that is indestructible, in union with God, and led by the Spirit.
Romans 6:4 ESV
We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.

Your situation offers something that no baseball team has: Guaranteed Victory! So don’t fall for the trick! Know your situation! Expound
I am free from the law of sin and death ().
8:2 law of the Spirit of life Refers to the authority of the Holy Spirit, who gives life and empowers believers to do what is right
Barry, J. D., Mangum, D., Brown, D. R., Heiser, M. S., Custis, M., Ritzema, E., … Bomar, D. (2012, 2016). Faithlife Study Bible (). Bellingham, WA: Lexham Press.
That sounds great but I am fearful.. I don’t feel like it’s possible to succeed..
Isaiah 54:14 ESV
In righteousness you shall be established; you shall be far from oppression, for you shall not fear; and from terror, for it shall not come near you.
I am far from oppression, and fear does not come near me ()
Home is safe! It will not be stolen! Unless you begin to doubt the outcome you have been promised! Expound
I am born of God, and the evil one does not touch me ().
2. Communicate
Communication is vital in avoiding a reactionary play. Call out the play before it happens! Let each other know where the ball is going to go. Encourage one another!
I always tell my team: When you speak to your teammates you have 2 choices, build them up or tear them down. Their actions do not determine which you choose. Yours do!
Ephesians 4:29 ESV
Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.
If your not building up, your tearing down! And it’s not up to anyone but you, the approach you take..
Proverbs 12:18 ESV
There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
God wants you to be wise! He desires for you to bring healing! Not only in your face to face interactions, but those that are expressed online for a community to see! You represent more than yourself! Expound
Don't rush communication
Take a minute and think things through. Ask for the wisdom of the holy spirit before you open your mouth or begin to type! Your opinion is not what a dying world needs to hear! They need to hear the words that bring life! Eternal life!
James 1:19 ESV
Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;
2 Timothy 2:16 ESV
But avoid irreverent babble, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness,
2 timothy
Adapt your ideas to others. When we come up with an idea, we often have a set image of it in our minds and that image isn't always easily conveyed to others. If you really want your ideas to be heard, you have to work with the person you're speaking to and find a way to communicate that idea in a way s/he will understand. This means you have to take the time to get to know your audience if you really, truly want to be able to communicate with them effectively.
Listen
You know I love this one! When you devote your full attention to the person or people you are communicating with, you're more likely to have much better results. When you get distracted and stop paying attention to the person you are communicating with, You will be unaware of the teams intentions. And when the play happens you will find yourself on a different page. This leads to confusion and allows the enemy to pull a trick play..
James 1:19 ESV
Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;
2 Timothy 2:16 ESV
But avoid irreverent babble, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness,
3. Don’t let your eyes be deceived
You may see a situation as a sure thing, however what you are seeing is not reality, it’s a trick! If you are relying on being reactionary you will fail! You will be confused and it will fall apart. We must be proactive!
Your walk with God is not subject too the culture of this world, It is subject to the truth! And you better understand how to discern what that looks and sounds like!
2 Peter 2:1 ESV
But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction.
And you lose your patience!
Peters primary concern with the false teachers is their denial of the return of Christ and God’s judgement that will come with it.
If the message you are hearing is comfortable, run! Expound
In addition, these teachers not only tolerated, but promoted immorality.
2 Peter 2:2–3 ESV
And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed. And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.
2 peter 2:
There is a false characterization of the freedom and grace that Jesus offers being spread in our world today. Under the banner labeled church.. It’s self serving and the line keeps getting pushed everyday..Expound

2:2 licentious ways Likely based on a false characterization of the freedom and grace Jesus offers, the heretics taught a form of liberty that promoted Christians enjoying sexual debauchery

In addition, these teachers not only tolerated, but promoted immorality.
When people want a license to sin they will work hard to excuse a consequence.
People don’t like fire and brimstone preaching. Why? Because it speaks of consequences, and that doesn’t leave a fuzzy feeling. So another church is built and another denomination is built, all around feelings and not truth! Expound
If this life was all about you, there would be no need for anyone else!
Well I don’t see Jesus? Where is he?
2 Peter 3:3–4 ESV
knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires. They will say, “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.”

following according to their own desires The false teachers and their followers acted like they had a form of godliness, but they were lacking the transformative power of Jesus in their lives; their decision to repeatedly choose and condone sin showed that they did not understand Jesus

2 peter 3:
2 Peter 3:8–10 ESV
But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.
As finite beings, we cannot expect to understand God’s timing. Your time table is irrelevant! Write all the books you want!
2 peter 3:
Psalm 90:4 ESV
For a thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday when it is past, or as a watch in the night.
The enemy wants you to lose sight of what matters. To pay attention to the deception and allow home to be stolen. Do not fall for the trip play,
2 Peter 2:2–3 ESV
And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed. And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.
Know your situation. Communicate. Don’t let your eyes be deceived
Do these things, And win the game!
You stop behind a car at a red light, and they are talking or texting on the phone and the light turns green and they still sit there, and it turns red again, and then green and again, but this time you interrupt them with a nice long blast from your horn!!
You lose your patience!
-Now the Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord. And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children to the third and the fourth generation.”
-But You, O Lord, are a God full of compassion, and gracious,
Longsuffering and abundant in mercy and truth.
-Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?
The best place to learn about patience is from God, us realizing how patience God is with us!!
If God would have only given us one chance to accept Him as Savior, I don’t think there would be very many sitting in Church on Sundays!!
Many of us He gave us chance after chance till one day we accepted what He offered!!
-For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope. Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus, that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
We have the scriptures to read, so that they can teach us, that just because we don’t understand what God is doing in a situation does not mean that God does not have a plan, it also teaches us that just because what we have prayed for has hasn’t happened yet, doesn’t mean it won’t!!
It gives us hope to remember that if God has promised it, it will come to pass!
-The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
You hear people say, “Why doesn’t God do something about all the evil in the world?”
If God was to judge the world right now, at this very minute, a lot of people, we love and care about would be sent to hell, but thank God, He give them one more minute, one more day, one more week, one more month, one more year, to come to Him!!
-But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
These are product’s of the Christian life!
These things are what you are suppose to see in the Christian life!
These are suppose to be evident in our life!!
-with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love,
We need to be patient with others, we all do not run the race the same speed, (Some can memorize scripture, some can quote scripture, some can’t, some have read the bible all the way thru, and some are still reading the first chapters). We all don’t start the race at the same place (Some where raised in Christian homes and some where not).
We all don’t have the same experiences, backgrounds, opportunities, abilities, but we all do have one thing in common, we all need patience!
We need to receive patience from others and we need to extend patience to others!!
