I. Being A Christian is Not Depended On Outward Circumstances.
A. Jew or Gentile.
B. Slave or Free.
C: Married or Single
Principle: Christians should willingly accept the situation into which God has placed them and be content to serve Him there. We should not be pre-occupied to change our outward circumstances.
Ephesians 6:5–8 ESV
Bondservants, obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling, with a sincere heart, as you would Christ, not by the way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, rendering service with a good will as to the Lord and not to man, knowing that whatever good anyone does, this he will receive back from the Lord, whether he is a bondservant or is free.
II. We Can Serve God In Any Circumstance.
1. Each of Us Is Set Free By Christ.
John 8:31–34 ESV
So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” They answered him, “We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, ‘You will become free’?” Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin.
John 8:31-34
John 8:31–34 ESV
So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” They answered him, “We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. 1. Each of Us Is Set Free By Christ.
2. Made Slaves By Christ.
Romans 6:22–23 ESV
But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Galatians 5:13–14 ESV
For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
C. (Bought at such a great price)
1 Peter 1:18-
1 Peter 1:18–19 ESV
knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.
1 Peter 1:18-19
1 Peter 1:18–19 ESV
knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.
Acts 20:28 ESV
Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood.
1 Corinthians 6:20 ESV
for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
III. What Really Matters is following the Commands of Christ.
1. Following God (Assignment)
Brothers, each man, as responsible to God, should remain in the situation God called him to. (NIV) Brethren, let each one remain with God in that state in which he was called. (NKJ)
2. Keeping God's Commands.
1 Corinthians 7:19 ESV
For neither circumcision counts for anything nor uncircumcision, but keeping the commandments of God.
Matthew 5:19 ESV
Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
John 15:14 ESV
You are my friends if you do what I command you.
1 John 2:3 ESV
And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments.
1 John 2:3–4 ESV
And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him,
1 John 5:2–3 ESV
By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.
