Tongue / Tongues

The Tongue,
We use to to Bless, We use it to curse,
We use to to decide, Taste god , taste bad.
The tougne can tell us a lot.
WE us eit when we are happy, we use it when we are upset.
We use it when we dont get our way.
WE cut people with it, and we can build people up with it.
The tounge can be used in a lot of different ways.
My son has a dag that blows my mind how she is trained.
People train and tame lions, tigers, dogs, cats and all kinds of wild animals.
Their is one thing known to man that cant be tamed.
The human Tongue!
James 3:8 ESV
but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
James
Acts 2:1–13 ESV
1 When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3 And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. 5 Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. 6 And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one was hearing them speak in his own language. 7 And they were amazed and astonished, saying, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language? 9 Parthians and Medes and Elamites and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, 11 both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians—we hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God.” 12 And all were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?” 13 But others mocking said, “They are filled with new wine.”
Acts 2:1–4 ESV
1 When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3 And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.
vs 1,,
Acts 2:1 NKJV
1 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
Acts 1:14 ESV
14 All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.
W know from verse 14 of chapter 1 they were praying,
We see they were all of one accord, vs 1 of chapter 2, they were all of one accord, they were in unity.
How did they become in unity?
By praying together.
Prayer is a beautiful way to get in one accord!
Notice it isnt just a drive thru prayer either.
They spent time praying together, this yeikded unity!
We are at the day of Pentecost, Pentocost is celebrated 50 days after Passover.
May to June, about this time of the year.
Acts 2:2 ESV
2 And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting.
Suddenly, that happened quickly, indicating a element of suprise.
Notice the posture here.
They werent jumping up and down, rolling on the floor, danceing, or even knelling.
The bible says the were all just sitting down.
A sound.
It was a sound, like a wind storm, some suggest maybe like a freight train, tornado.
This sound is pretty signaifenct.
You see later.
John 3:8 ESV
8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
The sound was from heaven!
sound = echoes , means echo
means echo
Echo means to repeat the original over and over again.
I think of the sund of the Gospel withing these four walls,
Is it echoed outside of these walls?
Is it repeated over and over again.
Acts 2:3–4 ESV
3 And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.
vs 3 tells us this was a visable thing, it was like fire in appearance but yet not fire as to burn.
Yet it rested on each one of them!
Tounges,
1 Corinthians 14:5 ESV
5 Now I want you all to speak in tongues, but even more to prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be built up.
1 Corinthians 14:5 ESV
5 Now I want you all to speak in tongues, but even more to prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be built up.
I wish you all spoke in Tongues Paul says.
1 Cor 14
This indicates that its available to all!
But some dont beleive or dont want this gift., thus they dont have it!
Its available to all, but many dont want to tap into this.
Acts 10:46 ESV
46 For they were hearing them speaking in tongues and extolling God. Then Peter declared,
Acts
The gist of Tongues came upon the house of Cornelius, even befor Peter was finsihed his preaching it came to them.
Their are two kinds of Tongues,
Public
This tongue must have a interpertation!
Private
This is where Paul speaks of I wish you all spoke this!
Is available to all.
Is this required to get to heaven,
meaning the tongue.
no....
BUT.... It is. so the answer is yes!!!
The Bible says to confess with our tongue, to repent of our sins, and to confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord of all.
Romans 10:9–10 ESV
9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
Some will tell you if you dont speak in tongues you arent saved!
This isnt true at all.
vs 4
Acts 2:4 ESV
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.
The Spirit gave utterance to speak in other languages.
The Word Tongue in Greek is glossa
it means Languages
glossa is where we get Glossary.
We have spanish classes, french, english etc.
These are all taught.
The Gift oof Tongues is exactly what it says, a gift.
Their is no calss for this and cant be taught!
The Holy Spirt will give this Language.
People play with this in church!!

Acts 2:5–13 ESV
Acts 2:2 ESV
2 And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting.
The sound here brought these people together.
What is that sound, lets go see!
vs 8, says they heard in their own language.
Was it spoken in their language or did they hear in their own language?
I beleive it was spoken in their own language here.
But this gift can be used in reverse too!
I have experinced this myself and never knew it until later I was told about it!
vs 8 says we heard in our own language.
language = dialetes, meaning dilect
Dilect meaning a language of a particular group.
Genesis 11:1–9 ESV
1 Now the whole earth had one language and the same words. 2 And as people migrated from the east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there. 3 And they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks, and burn them thoroughly.” And they had brick for stone, and bitumen for mortar. 4 Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be dispersed over the face of the whole earth.” 5 And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of man had built. 6 And the Lord said, “Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is only the beginning of what they will do. And nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them. 7 Come, let us go down and there confuse their language, so that they may not understand one another’s speech.” 8 So the Lord dispersed them from there over the face of all the earth, and they left off building the city. 9 Therefore its name was called Babel, because there the Lord confused the language of all the earth. And from there the Lord dispersed them over the face of all the earth.
Gen
Dilect was a reversal of Gods judgemment of the Tower of Bable.
Gods Judgement at the tower of Bable scattered the people.
Gods Blessing at Pentecost united the people!
At Bable the people couldnt understand,
At pentecost the understand.
Acts 2:11 ESV
11 both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians—we hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God.”
we see this was directed at God.
1 Corinthians 14:2 ESV
2 For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him, but he utters mysteries in the Spirit.
Acts 2:8 ESV
8 And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language?
cts 2 8
A
This tounge is directed to other men.
Are all languages known to man?
no
1 Corinthians 13:1 ESV
1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
tongues of men and angles,
some languages may not be known by men but is known in heaven!
the word dilect
Acts 2:9–11 ESV
9 Parthians and Medes and Elamites and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, 11 both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians—we hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God.”
We see 15 different dilect here, 15 different languages that are recorded.
Iran, Turkey, Rome, Africa, Greece,
Remember , they didnt hear 1 person speak in tongues, they heard 120 of them speaking in tongues.
What usally happenens when The Holy Spirit does a work?
What does this mean?
Acts 2:12–13 ESV
12 And all were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?” 13 But others mocking said, “They are filled with new wine.”
Some will mock, they are drunk
Some people will always mock the things of the Spirit.
Even churches mock the things of the Spirit.
and some of them even call the things of the Spirit demonic!!!
What can be worse that a church doing this?
only one thing,
A church that gives lip service!
They speak of these gifts,
But nothing is being done!
Believing God did on that day,
Believing God can do on this day is a cop out to me.
Its beleiving God at His Word, and beleiveing that GOd will DO as He says this day!
Its not only beleiving Gad can but knowing he will!!
This is a game changer!!!!
The conditions must be right!!
Let us not become the Frozen Chossen!
The use of tongues.
1.Public, requires always a interpertation.
2.Private, known to men or angels.
The most important tongue is the one uses to Confess Jesus os the Christ, Lord and savior of your life!
