21 Greet every saint in Christ Jesus. The brothers who are with me greet you.

Introduction
The God we glorify: v20
20 To our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.
The chief end of man - to glorify God and enjoy Him forever
Piper - glorify God - by enjoying Him forever.
His glory and our joy in Him
He is worthy of eternal praise.
Acknowledgement
What does it mean by giving God glory?
We are not giving God something that He lacks. God lacks nothing. By giving God glory, we are not making Him more glorious than He is. He has no needs and does not need us to make Him more grand than He is. Affirming and exclaiming that that makes God God.
Acknowledgement of the perfections of God - the attributes and characteristics that scriptures reveal that belong to God.

Our reverence of God flows from our thoughts concerning God.
9 For you, O Lord, are most high over all the earth; you are exalted far above all gods.
Appreciation
The acknowledgement of who God is, appreciation and admiration of God, the wonder that He is our God.
Adoration
1 Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly beings, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
2 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness.
We come to worship God because He is worthy - all that He is that makes God God. The adoration manifests in our worship toward God. God guards our worship. Our worship must accord with who God is - the God who shows Himself to us. Worship does not arise from our own imagination. It arises from God’s revelation. IT comes from Him, through and to Him. Not fashioned by style but rather by scripture.
Our worship is not fashioned by culture but by His commands. Not formed by our taste but His truth.
Affection
Affection arises in our hearts for this God because of His perfection.

Phil 4:20
God is glorified, exalted and honored not only when people acknowledge who He is but love and enjoy Him for who He is. Trust and rest in Him.
In knowing Christ, we know the Father who is everlasting, eternal and unchanging. As long as He is our Father in heaven our joy will be full, our delight will be complete and our happiness will be full for such is the fruit of glorifying Him forever. Worshiping, delighting and glorifying Him.
The effect of truth and theology. A heart that is aflame for God.
The chief end of man is to Glorify God BY enjoying him for ever.
2. The Greetings we share: vv 21-22
21 Greet every saint in Christ Jesus. The brothers who are with me greet you.
22 All the saints greet you, especially those of Caesar’s household.
An act of ackowledgement
- Sending of greetings
- acknowledging other saints who are also being faithful and worshiping the Lord
A ministry of involvement
- a person who is a saint - is in Christ Jesus
Greet every saint in Christ Jesus - command.
Saints - qualification.
Acknowledge, salute, welcome and love them.
A word of encouragement
Al the saints greet you, especially those of Caesar’s household. High ranking soldiers, senators, personal servants etc. This encourages the saints in Philippi, through their fellowship, support, the Gospel of Jesus Christ has broken through into the very household of Caesar. The Gospel is the power of God which has broken through that wall and has come right into Caesar’s household.
Saints - qualification.
The Gospel has gone from one man dying on the cross to now has gone on to even Caesar’s household bowing their knee to Jesus Christ. This is almost unbelievable. The fruit of the Gospel is the power of God unto salvation.
Acknowledge, salute, welcome and love them.
The sending and receiving greeting - is to gather together worshiping God and sharing and knowing, embracing, encouraging and loving one another.
3. The Grace we need: v23
- Why does Paul write these words? Response of our heart and mind - God moved Paul to write these words because he knows us. He knows that we are not as good or gracious, or as godly as we think we are.
- The church is not a place for people who have it all together and who have it all together. It is a place for people who are needy, afraid, proud, confused and sinful.
- We are not ‘good’ people.
- Church is a place where we can stop pretending, take of our masks. We do know something that is almost unbelievable and that is Jesus loves me as I am. Jesus loves me with all my failures and imperfections.
- Marks of a healthy church. A healthy church is a church that does not believe that it is healthy. The moment we think we’re healthy and we have got it right and are getting better is when we need to fear. We are looking in the wrong direction. We are looking at ourselves and not looking at Jesus.
- Paul calls upon the saints to call upon the Gospel only by God’s grace.
To stand
To serve
To shine
To strive and persevere
To submit to one another.
To share our goods
To succeed and eventually get to heaven
All this only by the grace of good
Through many dangers, toils and snares...
*Beach - every beach - wave comes and another wave follows it and another etc. wave after wave.
The waves of God’s grace will keep on coming until we are at home with the Lord. God’s saving, supplying, sufficient, serving grace. God’s grace to save a wretch like me. Every day God’s grace keeps rolling on.
