The Shackling of Omnipotence (2)

Good Morning turn with me in your Bibles to , am speaking on the subject of the shackling of omnipotence or “tying the hands of Jesus” .

Did you know that Christ wants to reveal Himself and work in your life but there is a way to literally tie the hands

Let’ read God’s word together. Beginning in verse 1 Jesus is about to make the journey back to Nazareth remember he was raised there, He had His ministry Headquarters in a little town called Caperneum. Right there on the Sea of Galilee.

Now Jesus is going back He is going back for the second time and I’’ remind you of what happened the first time when He left. He has been doing some miracles, He has healed the sick, He has raised the dead, He has cast an entire legion of demons out of a man He was doing mighty works for the kingdom of Heaven!

Word has gotten around and everyone is talking about Jesus the son of Joseph but they refer to Him as the son of Mary, thats odd in Jewish times. It could be because Joseph was dead but theres other reasons it could have happened as well.

Mark 6:1–3 HCSB

He went away from there and came to His hometown, and His disciples followed Him. When the Sabbath came, He began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard Him were astonished. “Where did this man get these things?” they said. “What is this wisdom given to Him, and how are these miracles performed by His hands? Isn’t this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and the brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And aren’t His sisters here with us?” So they were offended by Him.

Mark 6:1-

OFFENDED?

You mean you can do whats right and people can be offended?

You mean you can believe the Word of God and people be offended? Wow things really havent changed all that much in 21 centuries have they? Why are we amazed at something that is said about us when we say what is right, when we see what they did to Jesus when everything He said and did was right?

He warned us before He left, He said just wanted you to know there are some who hate me, their gonna hate me so bad they are gonna kill me, and if they hate me they are gonna hate you too. Anybody here enjoy being hated?

Mark 6:4–6 HCSB

Then Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown, among his relatives, and in his household.” So He was not able to do any miracles there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. And He was amazed at their unbelief. Now He was going around the villages in a circuit, teaching.

Mark 6:4

Jesus was only amazed, He only marveld twice in the Bible, HE marveled once when an unbeliever believed and He marveled again when believers didnt believe.

The gospels record that after the Lord visited His hometown twice, He never went back. It was in this ity that Jesus was raised as a boy worked as a carpenter probably in stone until He was 30 years of age. Luke the doctor will record this about Jesus in

Luke 2:52 HCSB

And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and with people.

Now it is easy to see in the text before us that unbelief affected the ministry of the Son of god in His own hometown and among His own people. Remember this whole time through the demon possessed man, Jairus’ daughter the disciples on the boat the main point JESUS is trying to get across is this.

When situations arise YOU MUST BELIEVE IN ME AND IN MY ABILITY TO DO WHAT YOU CANNOT DO.

Unbelief hinders the work of the Lord JEsus in the gospel of mark and I’d like to say that unbelief still affects what Jesus will or will not do in our lives, in our homes, and in our churches.

Now always remember is preceded by and many other recorded miracles, perhaps our Lord had hoped that word had preceded Him and had prepared the way for Him to go back to His home. His heart longed for His hometown, the people of Nazareth and the people of UNION HILL need to listen to the warning of

Hebrews 3:12 HCSB

Watch out, brothers, so that there won’t be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart that departs from the living God.

Charles Darwin said that “belief was the most complete distinctions between man and the lower animals.”

If this is true it means that lack of faith on man’s part puts him on the same level as the animals. There was also a man named Robert Engersol described a believer as a songless bird in a cage, but don’t his words actually describe an unbeliever?

What do you think is happening in Nazareth?

Jesus is looking for a people who will allow Him to be who He is… you dont need to be offended by Him, you dont need to be ashamed of Him, just let Him be Himself, He lives within you now go live out the life in your workplace and your school. I think the biggest black eye on Christians today is that rather than boasting in the cross of JEsus Christ and empty tomb we offer Jesus as one solution among many rather than saying JESUS IS THE KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS AND THERE IS NO OTHER WAY AMONG MEN BY WHICH YOU CAN BE SAVED!!

WERE ASHAMED OF THE GOSPEL!!! THATS WHY SO MANY ARE NOT BEING CONVERTED AND REDEEMED TODAY!

REMEMBER WHAT PAUL SAID: “FOR I AM NOT ASHAMED OF THE GOSPEL FOR IT IS THE POWER OF GOD UNTO SALVATION UNTO ALL WHO BELIEVE TO THE JEW FIRST BUT ALSO UNTO THE GREEK!

Could it be that we are not seeing the power of God anymore because we are ashamed of the Biblical gospel? Or could it be that we dont actually believe in the power of JEsus at all?

It has been a year since Jesus has left Nazareth, where when He went before He was rejected by the people and evicted from the synagogue. Isn’t that something God was thrown out of the church. It’s in this context that you have the story of a people who did not take Jesus seriously. Let’s get personal, do you take Jesus seriously?

What He can do, who He is, what He desires to do with you His purpose for your life.

Or do you do have a list of checkboxes that you check when a task is finished....

If your not careful church is on the checklist, check it off, and maybe you didn’t come thinking you would recieve anything from the Lord you just kind of rolled in not expecting anything but hoping that the preacher wouldn’t talk too long because you have something else to do!

DONT SAY AMEN TO THAT BECAUSE THERE IS A VERY REAL PROBLEM WHEN YOU THINK THAT WHAT YOU HAVE GOING ON AFTER THE PREACHING OF THE WORD OF GOD IS MORE IMPORTANT OR PRESSING THAN ACTUALLY HEARING THE WORD OF GOD!!! YOUR EXPECTOR HAS EXPIRED!!!

SOMETHING IS WRONG IF THIS IS A RITUAL AND NOT A RELATIONSHIP!!!

Maybe there is a familiarity at the house of God

That theres nothing new you can learn of Him youve heard it all… God help us

So with that being said I am going to give you 3 simple talking points

This Text Shows Me The Fearlessness of THE SON OF GOD

It shows me that in His devotion. I mentioned that Jesus had not been here except for 2 times. is one occasion and is the first, and when He went the first time they treated Him so badly and when you see how they treated Him nobody wold blame Him if HE never went back. What did Jesus do to set them off the way they were set off? well when there is a visiting rabbi or a teacher of gods law visiting a village it wasn’t unusual for the rabbi of that region to invite the guest rabbi to come and speak. So what they would do is hand Him a scroll and He happened to be given Isaiah’s scroll and He stood and He read from prophecy about how one would come to redeem the people. When Jesus was done He folded up the scroll and looked out over His people and He said: “Today these words have been fufilled in your hearing.”

While He was speaking one person in the audeince looked over the other one and said: “Wait a minute did he say what I think He said?”

“I believe he did.”

“You know what he just said.. the coming messiah.. he said he is the coming messiah.. good Lord “

BLASPHEMY HES CLAIMING TO BE GOD

So they got together and they said “what are we gonna do about this I mean word is going to get around and they are going to wanna know if we held this dude accountable for what He just said.

So they said I tell you what were gonna do there’s a real high cliff, and let’s push him over!

I don’t know what He did the Bible says Jesus just disappeared through the crowd and they couldnt find Him, He just woosh houdini He was gone.

So someone might have said “hey Jesus heard you got to go home last week, you hadnt been there in awhile I bet it was good to see everybody...”

John 7:5 HCSB

(For not even His brothers believed in Him.)

His family did not even believe He was who He said He was. “So Jesus how did it go?”

Jesus: “They tried to kill me”

“wow Jesus, no what were asking is .. you went home and your telling us they tried to kill you there”

IM TELLING YOU THE SAD STATE OF OUR WORLD TODAY IS THAT THERE ARE MORE PEOPLE INSIDE THE HOUSE OF GOD THAN EVER BEFORE WHO HATE THE SON OF GOD THEY CLAIM TO BELIEVE IN. WHEN IN ACTUALITY THEY DONT BELIEVE IN HIM AT ALL! SO THEY TRY TO THWART GODS PLAN, USURP GODS LEADERS AND SLOW DOWN PROGRESS IN A CHURCH AND GOD HELP THOSE WHO STAND INOPPOSITION TO THE SON OF GOD AND THE GOSPEL!

Luke 4:28-

When they heard this, everyone in the synagogue was enraged. They got up, drove Him out of town, and brought Him to the edge of the hill that their town was built on, intending to hurl Him over the cliff. But He passed right through the crowd and went on His way.

So heres what I would say about the fearlessness of the Son of God, it was seen because regardless of how they acted or how they treated Him He was still overwhelmed by thier great need! How many of you if someone hated you and tried to kill you would continue to try to witness to them after their failed murder attempt?

This is the attitude neccesarry for believers that the love of God would so overwhelm you that you would be like Jesus and you wouldn’t see thier hate you would only see thier need!!!

Were supposed to learn from the attributes of Jesus it doesnt matter what your neighbor said, it doesnt matter what your family member has said keep pressing in because they need JEsus. How patient God has been to all of us.

The Lord does not delay His promise, as some understand delay, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance.

Some of you right now have stopped witnessing to someone because they have been nasty to you and they dont want to hear it DONT QUIT DONT GIVE UP BE OVERHWLMED BE BURDENED OH THAT THE PEOPLE OF GOD WOULD SEE THEIR NAEIGHBORS NOT AS ONES THEY DONT WANT TO PUSH AWAY BUT AS SOULS THAT WILL SPEND ETERNITY IN TORMENT IF THEY DO NOT REPENT AND BELIEVE IN JESUS FOR THEMSELVES!

So heres a good question:

“How many times has Jesus given you to open your heart toward Him?”

Jesus was determined to proclaim the good news to His enemies. Often times God has not called you to proclaim the gospel to people who love you … hehe but with the ones who hate you the most!

Jesus always identified Himself with the synagogue a place where the word of God was read.

It was overheard this week that someone said: “If you go to a church where the preacher always hollers and is raising his voice and is always talking verse by verse through Bible verses then well come to our church and welcome home! Well I just want to say that what I have been doing I plan to do until my last breath and that is stand I pray as the man of God lift up the Son of God do it from the word of God, pray its anointed by the Spirit of God, that it touches the children of God to the point to where God is glorified! Most of the time when a preacher is raising His voice is because there is such a great burden if HE loves you and is burdened for your soul then a preacher will pour himself out as a drink offering in hopes that it will change your life not just your eternity.

GOD DOESNT JUST WANT YOU TO PUNCH YOUR TICKET FOR HEAVEN HE WANTS YOU TO EXPERIENCE ABUNDANT LIUFE HERE IN EARTH As well!

wITH DETERMINATON you just stay after it

Now in those days synagogues were built in such a way that they pointed towards Jerusalem. That means everytime Jesus would take a scroll , everytime He would read in any synagogue in anywhere in the ancient world He would be looking to the place where He would die for the sins of the world. The Bible says His face was set like flint toward the cross He never lost the mindset of His mission. Jesus was determined to preach in Nazareth in hopes that someone would believe in Him.

Jesus was fearless, He went there they tried to kill Him Hes coming back, He was relentless in His pursuit of these people who refused to honor Him.

Jesus is still in hot pursuit of rebels who do not want Him to be Lord over thier life.

HE WAS WOUNDED FOR OUR TRANSGRESSIONS HE WAS BRUISED FOR OUR INIQUITY THE CHASTISEMENT THAT BROUGHT US PEACE WAS UPON HIM, BY HIS STRIPES WE ARE HEALED>

ALL WE LIKE SHEEP HAVE GONE ASTRAY EACH ONE HAS TURNED HIS OWN WAY

AND THE LORD HAS LAID ON HIM THE INIQUITY OF US ALL

Guys that is the message of the cross JEsus knew hundreds of years before He was born that He would have to die if any sinner was ever going to be set free and yet He knowing He was going to be mocked and spit upon, knowing He was going to be torturedwent to the cross despising the shame to rescue and redeem those who rebelled against Him.

The Familiarity in the House of God

Mark 1:2 HCSB

As it is written in Isaiah the prophet: Look, I am sending My messenger ahead of You, who will prepare Your way.

the word astonished means to be struck by a blow or be stung by a lick

Heres what it means it literally means one translator says: you could have pushed me over with your finger

In other words they were thinking WHAT DID YOU HEAR WHAT HE SAID?

They are at the house of God they had heard the reports of all He was doing they had become numb to the reality of who He was THEY WERE NOT EVEN EXPECTING THE MESSIAH ANYMORE IF THEY HAD BEEN THEY WOULD HAVE RECOGNIZED HIM WHEN HE CAME

But instead they were playing religious games rather than seeking an encounter with the Son of the Living God i mean look at what they said!

“WHERE DID THIS MAN GET THESE THINGS? WHAT IS THIS WISDOM? ALL THESE MIRACLES”

Their expectors had expired.

All of these Jews claimed to expecting the long awaited Messiah but they missed Him He was stadning right in front of them, I recieved a message from one of our youth this morning that said I am looking forward to what God will say to us through you this morning. She is coming expecting to hear from God!

But you know why we have to have camps?

It is because we become so spiritually numb through the year that we need a jumpstart, we need to be fired up again.... THE SAME WORD BEING PREACHED AT A WOMANS CONFERENCE AND YOUTH CAMOS IS THE SAME WORD BEING PREACHED WITH THE SAME INTENSITY HERE AS IT IS THERE! WHEN YOU COME TO THIS BUILDING EXPECTING IN FAITH TO HEAR FROM THE LORD YOU WILL HEAR FROM HIM BUT IF YOU COME NOT EXPECTING YOU WILL RECIEVE NOTHING.

It means the things Jesus was doing were dumbfounding them.

Why were they dumbfounded?

Because these people were too familar with Him
