Intro- We have been praying for this week for a long time. We have a special series of lessons lined up for you this week. We are going to do some in depth study on Bible words.
2 Timothy 3:16–17 ESV
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
What is Inspiration?
- in the KJV tells us that all scripture is “inspired”- The greek word used for “inspired” is θεόπνευστος - (theopnuestos) which is a compound word literally meaning “God-breathed”-

It is crucial that we not overlook what the Bible says about itself. The claim of the Bible is that every word is breathed by God. meaning it is not just some things that Men wrote down.
-
2 Peter 1:21 ESV
For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
1 Peter 1:21 ESV
who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
Peter wrote that the men who spoke God’s words and wrote them down, wrote as the Spirit “carried them”
Meaning… we accept the Bible’s claim that it is the word of God, and it has ALL authority. Or… we reject it.
- Peter writes about being on the mountain of transfiguration with Jesus… He also says that the written word is more sure than what he witnessed with his very eyes.
Why I believe the Bible is inspired.
Studying prophecies will increase your faith.
Archaeology shows the Bible to be true:
mentions a king of Assyria named Sargon. For years people disputed the validity of scripture because there was no record of a king sargon… until 1843 when Archeologist Emile Botta discovered the remains of his imperial city
There are many prophecies found in scripture that as we look back at history we see that they were fulfilled. There are even some prophecies we still see today.

- Written in 589 B.C. predicts that Nebuchadnezzar will take Egypt and that it never again will rise to a major world empire. Today Egypt is still considered a 3rd world country

Man thought the world rested on the shoulders of a greek God, or sat on Giant pillars- states that the earth hangs on nothing
Man thought the earth was flat- describes the circle of the earth
states that the life is in the blood… We understand that, seems like common sense, you need blood to live… This didn’t used to be common sense. On December 14th 1779 George Washington woke up with a sore throat. His team of Dr’s did a procedure called “blood letting” and they drained his body of 40% of his blood.. you know what happened to him? He died.
The need for an open heart.
The saddest thing to witness are individuals who claim to believe in the Bible, but refuse to let it touch their hearts.
They say they Believe the Bible is God’s word.. but their actions prove otherwise when they ignore the scriptures directions for their lives.
2 Timothy 3:16–17 ESV

All- We don’t have the luxury of picking and choosing passages of the Bible that we want to study, we need to learn it all.
It is profitable- it’s good for us.
reproof and correction--- Don’t you love hearing when you are wrong? in some cases it is the most loving thing. If you are walking toward disaster, don’t you want to be warned?
training in righteousness- Can I tell you something tonight? You aren’t good enough… You have work to do.
