For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:
a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.
In life we go through many seasons and some seasons are joy filled and ready to be embraces. Other’s bring with them pain and sorry. As we gather here to celebrate the life of James Nally there will be a time to mourn your loss, a time of laughter and joy as you recall the many memories, and a time of questioning when you try to figure things out.
There are several things I want to remind you during this tough time.
God is not afraid of your questions.
Although there are times where God seems to not answer or give us answers we don’t necessarily desire he is not against us asking questions.
In Exodus chapter 3 Moses was called to the burning bush. There at this miraculous time he recieved a call to save God’s people from slavery. Before he accepted the call he asked many questions and voiced many doubts.
Moses asked why me? (v11)
Whose authority do you come (V12)
What if they don’t listen and ex.
2. God is not afraid of your tears or your anger.
The Lord is near those who are discouraged; he saved those who have lost all hope.
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.
God is not here to condemn your feelings, but he is here to help you process those feelings and to bring you comfort during this time of mourning. Many times in the face of tragedy we look for someone to blame, but truly there is no blame-this is no ones fault. My dad used to tell me there are two things guaranteed for every working man—death and taxes. Understand that though his life may have ended tragically it is not your fault.
3. God is not afraid to heal you.
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
This healing is easy to obtain.
casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
in obtaining God’s healing and strength we must welcome his Spirit and accept his son. He are called to cast all our cares onto God. We are called to give him our grief, our anger, and our doubt. By allowing Jesus to come into our lives and giving Him the freedom to work in us we allow his to bind up our wounds. In life and even in hospitals Dr’s must have permission from those they are saving to give them life altering surgeries and medications. A dr. cannot simply inflict His will on another human being. For example when someone has a do not resuscitate order a Dr. cannot attempt to bring them dying person back to life. The only way a dr. can do what a dr. does is if the person permit him to do it.
The same is true with Christ. He holds the keys to your healing. He can revive your very soul. He can wipe away your tears and give you hope in even the most trying of times, but you have to permit him to do so. The greatest travesty is when one blames God for something He didn’t have permission touch. You cannot blame a dr. when a patient with a DNR dies because they were not allowed to work. We cannot blame God for our sicknesses and sorrow when we don’t allow God in our lives.
There’s the simple message of the gospel. A healing message that can remove a DNR in a person’s life and give God permission to bandage up wounds and heal the heart, to gather up peices of ourselves we thought we lost and begin to mold them back together.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
Christ died for our sins, but we cannot receive his life giving salvation without first giving him permission. Jesus says that when we accept Him we accept the Father in Heaven. When we allow him to work we can begin to receive his healing touch. His saving grace. and a new life filled with purpose, joy, and peace.
So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven,
Will you acknowledge Him today? Will you allow him to comfort you when you mourn, answer you when you question, and fill you when you are empty? If so let us pray.
