Ecclesiastas 12:1

“Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come. . . .”
Ecclesiastes 12:1 ESV
1 Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come and the years draw near of which you will say, “I have no pleasure in them”;
“Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come. . . .”
I tell folks that we become walking evidences of the fall as we age.
How is that true? Why do you think so?
We think little about the aging process when we’re young, most assuredly because we see only a strong future in front of us.
We look forward to positive things of aging – we will start driving, we’ll finish college degrees, we’ll get married, we’ll have kids, we’ll have a good career, etc. . . .
All is good as we mature as human beings and have families of our own.
But then something happens. It’s almost imperceptible, but it happens.
Me....>>>>> I think I noticed it more not just with ache’s and pains.. but eyes changing, needing stronger or more specialized glasses.. etc…
Lets look at
Ecclesiastes 12:1–5 ESV
1 Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come and the years draw near of which you will say, “I have no pleasure in them”; 2 before the sun and the light and the moon and the stars are darkened and the clouds return after the rain, 3 in the day when the keepers of the house tremble, and the strong men are bent, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those who look through the windows are dimmed, 4 and the doors on the street are shut—when the sound of the grinding is low, and one rises up at the sound of a bird, and all the daughters of song are brought low— 5 they are afraid also of what is high, and terrors are in the way; the almond tree blossoms, the grasshopper drags itself along, and desire fails, because man is going to his eternal home, and the mourners go about the streets—
So Solomon says it best.... we are our best when we are born and it starts to go down hill from there… life begins a process of decline.
Look at what his said… verse 1… the days of our youth are the best… and the worst days are yet to come..
What it really speaks to my heart is the simple truth… before the days of decline come, live for, do our best for, and strive to do more in the days of our youth.
We know that as we get older things slow down,
Look at verse 3
Ecclesiastes 12:3 ESV
3 in the day when the keepers of the house tremble, and the strong men are bent, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those who look through the windows are dimmed,
As the writer of Ecclesiastes describes it, we begin the process of decline. Our limbs (the “keepers of the house”—) begin to tremble.
As the writer of Ecclesiastes describes it, we begin the process of decline. Our limbs (the “keepers of the house”—) begin to tremble. Our muscles in the back and legs weaken (“the strong men are bent”—). Our teeth (“grinders”—) become fewer, and our eyes lose their power (“those who look through the window are dimmed”—). Our ears seemingly close, and fears increase. All in all, it makes sense why it is best to start serving the Lord at a younger age.
That is not to say that those with graying hair bring nothing to the table; in fact, the wisdom of the aged is often celebrated in the scriptures.
Rather, it is simply an honest recognition of the value of serving the Lord in the days of our youth.
Now why is it important for us to hear this message.... It is not to make us look backward and say, man I wish I had done more…
Worry and fretting about what we did not do in years past does us know good today.
But what it can do for us is help us raise up the current generation of young people.
God has placed a calling in the lives of our youth and we must help them develop it.
1 Timothy 4:12 ESV
12 Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.
So what can we do to help our youth....
Let them know we believe in them, Let me know even in their youth they are important.. and by their walk they can set a strong example.
1 Timothy 4:12 ESV
12 Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.
2. Remind them that in Christ they can do whatever God has set before them..
Philippians 4:13 ESV
13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
3. Help them remember they can trust in the Lord, in all areas of their life.
Psalm 37:5 ESV
5 Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.
4. Remind youth, in fact everyone that we are called to be a servant, and a good servant makes a great leader in the days ahead of them.
Matthew 20:26 ESV
26 It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant,
5. remind them not to give up in the time ahead of them, even in difficult days when they fill like they are of no help, God has a plan for them. and they will reap good victories in the future.
Galatians 6:9 ESV
9 And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
5. Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in preaching and teaching. –
6. Remind our youth to place wise people around them for advice, leadership and mentor ship.
Proverbs 11:14 ESV
14 Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.
7. Remind our youth to always work in truth. To judge, to act and to work with others in truth...
Proverbs 29:14 ESV
14 If a king faithfully judges the poor, his throne will be established forever.
8. Teach our youth to place their cares into the Lord’s hands...
1 Peter 5:7 ESV
7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
9. Teach them, encourge them to allow the Lord to direct His steps.
Proverbs 16:9 ESV
9 The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.
And for us we must pray for our youth daily....
Pray for John and Amy as they lead our youth.
